Tt1: Test Your Yoga Knowledge With This Certification Mini Quiz
What is on a Yoga Certification exam? Every one will be different, but almost all of them will cover similar aspects of yoga: philosophy, anatomy, postures. I put together a free mini quiz for you to test your yoga knowledge at http://www.quietmind.yoga/19quiz — I’ll walk you through the whole thing in today’s episode. You can test your knowledge before listening, or after and see how you do. These are some of the same questions I include in the Quietmind Yoga Teacher Training certification exam. Of course, I don’t cover everything here, but these are some of the essentials, and a great place to start to make sure you do great no matter which certification you take.

Is An Ryt Certification Necessary
To become an RYT you basically just pay flat out fees to Yoga Alliance which come out to about $115 JUST for the initial registration. After that you have to keep paying $65 annually for maintenance.
Like clockwork.
You also need to continue your yoga education by enrolling in workshops, taking new classes and trainings to stay up-to-date with safe teaching methods.
Good news is you can still participate in a Yoga Alliance certified teacher training without having to register as an RYT, then having the option to register later on in the future.
Lets just say because someone is registered as an RYT doesnt mean that they are a qualified teacher.
It takes practice and dedication to be a good teacher.
Knowledge is power.
Our advice to you is to save your membership money and invest in more workshops & trainings instead!!
Why Do People Get Muscle Cramps In Yoga
First of all, its important to know that a muscle cramp is not necessarily a bad thing. It simply means that muscles are activated that havent been engaged too much before and/or in a way they havent been used very often.
Secondly, be assured that getting cramps in a yoga class is nothing unusual. The most common problem areas are the calves and feet. However, since cramps can be embarrassing and force practitioners to get out of the yoga pose and walk it off, its a good idea to know how to prevent cramps, or how to deal with them.
Apart from muscular causes such as muscle tightness and fatigue, muscle cramps can occur due to dehydration or mineral imbalance in the body. The culprit often is a low level in magnesium, calcium, or potassium, which can easily be remedied by dietary intake or, if youre impatient, the use of a supplement.
The muscular causes related to the yoga practice are mostly induced by actions such as hyperextending the knees since this interrupts the fluidity of movement and circulation in the leg. Other possible reasons for muscle cramps in yoga include the action of gripping the toes into the floor when trying to balance, or cold feet.
So, there are a few easy remedies to prevent muscle cramps:

Begin The Path Of Self
You probably expect to memorize Sanskrit names and learn how to demonstrate Trikonasana, but you may be surprised by how much time you spend thinking about yourself and your own practice as you prepare to teach yoga to others. This self-inquiry may be a welcome exercise, or it can bring up some troubling feelings that youve been ignoring.
Dave Farmar, a Baptiste Power Vinyasa teacher in Denver, Colorado, says, Everything that has happened in your life, affects you at that moment. What often comes up are issues you need to transform to become a teacher. The advice I give for dealing with these sometimes painful, sometimes wonderfully eye-opening issues is just let it happen and trust in the process. Theres nothing wrong with having doubts and fears, or confronting things you may not have looked at in your life.
Fortunately, you are already equipped to deal with this challenge. Randal Williams, a director of teacher training at the Kripalu Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, says, You can navigate your way through with the practice of yoga. The first thing is to not shy away from your experience be aware of what you are going through. Remember that no matter what experience youre having, its not a mistake. Life is conspiring that you come to this very moment and have this experience.

This is not crucial for all training programs, but it is a good place to start. It provides a good base for contemplation and also helps you to explore your own limitations and fears.
It also begins the process of becoming an awesome teacher who can create invigorating flows without external motivation .
Practicing letting your body be the guide prior to the training will help you to see if teaching is something you are genuinely interested in.
Popular yoga teacher Jason Crandell says that you dont need to have the same degree or intensity as a regular class when you practice at home.
Its a lot like cooking, says Crandell. Sure, you could make restaurant-caliber food for every meal, but a piece of peanut butter toast now and then will also sustain you quite nicely.
Additionally, a well-grounded home practice can save on studio fees if you are saving up for a teacher training program.
We probably dont have to tell you, but teacher trainings can be expensive.

Where And How To Pick A Yoga Studio Or Retreat
Google gives us so many choices and it can be easy to get swept up in them.
Do you want to bask in a hammock in between classes or do you want to be a hop, skip and a subway ride away from where you live? These questions may help you to narrow the list down.

What Is The Curriculum And Classroom Format
Even with the Yoga Alliance standards, there is a lot of leeway for the varied interests and backgrounds of individual teachers.
Some are heavy on the anatomy, light on the philosophy, but this can also be flipped.
A good program will be extremely well structured and be able to let you know from the get-go what they plan on covering.
Consider:
- If the classes are exclusively for students and not the general public
- If you will be able to get your certificate right at the end of the course or if a certain amount of time needs to pass
- If the topics covered are areas that intrigue you and that you are attracted to in your favorite teachers
If Included What Are Accommodation And Meals Like
my private treehouse room
If you have special dietary or accommodation needs, this is the time to ask: BEFORE youve made your deposit.
Will the accommodation provided be rustic tents, beautiful treehouses, or swampy dorm rooms? Is there hot water? Options for upgrades, private rooms, private bathrooms?
How many meals a day are served, and what do they typically look like? If the provided food wont be enough for you, be sure to bring snacks. Being hangry can make hours of yoga feel more like torture.

Yoga Teacher Training Faqs:
If I obtained my 200-hour certification from a different school, am I still eligible to participate in your 300-hour program?
Yes, but to register your 500-hours with the Yoga Alliance, your 200-hour program must have also been certified through the Yoga Alliance.
Will I be eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance after your 200 or 300-hour training?
Yes. Blue Osa is a Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance at 3 levels: RYS 200, RYS 300, and RYS 500. Once you complete one of our 200 or 300-hour trainings, you will receive your teaching certificate. This makes you a Certified Yoga Teacher . You can then submit your certificate to the Yoga Alliance to become a Registered Yoga Teacher for your specific level .
What is the difference between the 200, 300, and 500hour programs?
Your 200-hour teaching certificate is the basic level of training that is recognized by the Yoga Alliance. It means that you are certified to teach yoga and eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as RYT 200.
The 300hour program is for participants who already have a 200hour certificate and wish to earn their advanced 500hour certification.
When you complete your 300-hour program, it means you have a total of 500 hours of yoga teacher training. You are eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as RYT 500, which means that you are able to teach yoga with the deeper knowledge and skills developed through more extensive training and study.

It Has Been A Journey That I Will Be Forever Grateful For
It forced me dive into myself & is helping me to begin to establish a relationship between my physical body, my mind and my soul.
Some days I thought were rock bottom … but it only made me realize that was part of the journey, the journey of trusting myself of becoming my own hero the person who Ive always been but have never really trusted! All these things I see as signs from the universe telling myself to trust ME to believe in ME and to hear ME … to L O V E me as I am and accept all the little flaws that comes with being a human and all.
But I couldnt have done it without all these beautiful souls, these magical humans who were always there to listen to just one more story of why Im crying right now or to give me some ibuprofen when my muscles ached or to pay for a cab ride back to the hotel when I didnt have any more cash on me and didnt sweat it cause it happens to all of us or that person who believed in me more than I did when I finally landed that tri-pod headstand and says I told you, you could do it! Or that person who held my hand while I got stitches for the first time & for that Im so thankful to you all .

What Experience Does The Program Require
Some programs just want passion and someone who will consistently show up.
Others would rather you take classes with the main instructor, or even several years of a consistent practice.
If absolutely no experience is required and the yoga school would rather know your bank details than your yoga background, consider walking away.
It is a warning sign that someone in a spiritual field cares more about the dollar than the person.
You want a program with clout and with expectations. During the application process, check that they ask you some questions rather than admitting you readily.
Depending on the program, these can range from your intentions to your experience.
Are they questions that you would want your own yoga teacher to be aware of?
Put yourself in the shoes of your future students.

Q I Have Booked The Course A Few Months In Advance And Accommodation Was At Abc Hotel/guest House But When I Came It Is Different
We arrange our training at the guest house or hotel at different locations. Usually, we book in advance and always notify participants if there is any change. We only change it when guest house/hotel is not delivering what has been promised earlier. We need a clean and hygienic environment and quality food. In the event there is some issue and management is not able to provide the solution or sometimes due to some unforeseen circumstance we may need to change it. However, we always provide minimally what has been promised earlier and location wise there is always no change. If you have booked the training at Rishikesh, you will still be attending at Rishikesh only. For Dharamshala, it will always be Dharamshala.
Loved The Course Content And Attention To Detail
Loved the course content and attention to detail. Each of the teachers gave their own personal input and shared their knowledge and understanding. The shala was beautiful and a great atmosphere was created, it became our home. Bente and Maria held lots of space for us to go through our own personal journeys. The group was incredibly supportive and I believe this came from their leadership. We learned so much depth about yoga and the surrounding subjects, yoga history and anatomy were paid particular detail too. There were plenty of activities to do which really added to the experience, the water temple was a special experience for me.

How Much Time Should You Factor In For Homework
The time with your head instructor wont be the only time you will be dedicating to the course.
In fact, many yoga schools have a minimum number of contact hours in the physical presence of a faculty member .
This means that a 200 hour designation includes the time you spend reading the books, planning your classes and mapping out your yoga destiny.
We may have made that last one up.
Thank You For Sharing This Journey With Me
Its official, completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with . Without sounding cliché, this journey was life changing. When we think of yoga we often only think of the physical practice, poses, turning oneself into a pretzel! Its the western way of thinking, and we forget about the connection to the mind and soul. We forget that yoga is also about the breath, meditation, energy systems and the power of what this connection can bring to our lives. I am full of gratitude! I have found a deeper purpose from this journey and I look forward to what lies ahead to help others live a more healthy, and meaningful life.
To all my teachers Bente, Maria, Sean, Rachel, Analu, Magdalena thank you for inspiring me, I have a light inside that is shining brighter then ever! And to my fellow classmates, thank you for sharing this journey with me, for being vulnerable, and for being courageous! I do not believe we came together by chance, but more so to each learn and grow from one another.
