Why Is It Important To Do Yoga

What Is Karma Yoga

Why Yoga is important-Is Yoga better than exercise? | What is Yoga and its benefits?

Okay, so lets start with the basics. Karma yoga comes from the Sanskrit term which means deed or action. This form of yoga is one of the main paths that practitioners can normally follow. Therefore, it is considered an action path or a way of selflessly serving others.

Since karma in its nature is spiritual, it is considered one of the easiest and most effective ways for you to develop your spiritual side. Rather than hoarding or keeping all of the results of our actions to us, it is considered a better spiritual offering.

What we experience at present is the result of the karma from our previous actions whether it is good or bad. Its basically caused and the effect that we have shaped can be retorted by karma yoga kind of like fighting fire with fire. Whether we recognize it or not, we sometimes perform actions that we become unaware of. In fact, even something as simple as sitting down can be considered an action.

Through karma yoga, you will be able to learn how to practice good karma and at the same time be able to practice it with others around you.

Like yoga, the osteopathic approach to wellness focuses on your bodys natural tendency toward health and self-healing.

The purpose of yoga is to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body, explains Natalie Nevins, DO, a board-certified osteopathic family physician and certified Kundalini Yoga instructor in Hollywood, California.

While there are more than 100 different types, or schools, of yoga, most sessions typically include breathing exercises, meditation, and assuming postures that stretch and flex various muscle groups.

As an osteopathic physician, I focus a lot of my efforts on preventive medicine and practices, and in the bodys ability to heal itself, says Dr. Nevins. Yoga is a great tool for staying healthy because its based on similar principles.

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, focus on prevention by examining how your lifestyle and environment impact your health, rather than just treating your symptoms.

It Reminds You Of The Guru Inside

I have learned so much from the teachers in my past, and continue to study with very wise yogis. Yet, at the same time, my self-practice reminds me of the eternal wisdom of my soul. Like everyone, I have a guru inside me, and it is through the silence of my solitary moments that I can listen to what she is saying.

Benefits Breathing And Lowers Blood Pressure

5 Reasons Why Yoga For kids Is Important

If you practise yoga consistently, your lung capacity will increase as a result of the deep breathing process. This will then have a positive effect on more intense sports that you might be a part of, increasing your stamina and endurance. Furthermore, meditation and calming yoga asanas slow down your heart rate which in turn lowers blood pressure and have also been linked with improving the immune system and lowering cholesterol.

It Improves General Health

Yoga has numerous health benefits, both physical and mental. The routine practice of yoga will make you more aware of these benefits in the long run:

  • It can lower blood sugar. If you have diabetes, yoga may make you more sensitive to insulin. It can also reduce the risks of heart attacks, blindness, and kidney failure. Blood sugar levels will also be more regulated through yogas effect on the hormone cortisol.
  • It can control the adrenal glands. By lowering the secretion of adrenaline and cortisol, yoga can make your body snap out of crisis mode and return to normal levels. Constant high levels of cortisol and adrenaline are behind many health issues like depression and high blood pressure.
  • It can prevent digestive issues. Stress can take a toll on the digestive system. The practice of yoga helps eliminate stress from the organism, which can lower the risk of IBS. Physical activity helps with overall digestion, and yoga poses can have a positive effect on that too.
  • Slows down aging process. In modern life, with stress factors being high, pollution, and not regular eating, we contribute to the process of aging. Yoga helps us slow down and do an inner cleaning of our bodies and minds.

Yoga Becomes A Daily Routine

Another benefit of morning practice is it becomes a routine and you are certain it will fit into your busy day. When there is no set schedule for yoga, the time tends to slip away and responsibility takes over. Planning your practice to be at the same time each morning simplifies the goal while also improving the rest of your day as you start it feeling confident and ready for anything.

The Most Important Thing: Teaching And Living The Yoga Sutras

About 10 years ago, I was walking into a studio to teach an evening workshop when an old friend stopped me and asked me how I was doing. Distracted and surprised, I needed a moment to see that what he was really wanting was for me to know was how he was doingwhich was not so good. I stopped, took him in, and realized in that moment that it was time for me to get back into counseling. I had been an addictions counselor in the 1990s, but had left that work to teach yoga full-time. Standing on a dark Cambridge sidewalk, I realized that the big group work of yoga teaching was something I still needed to do, but it was also time for me to start working one-on-one again.

The Most Important Thing

When someone asks what to teach to this group or that group, I always tell them Teach the most important thing. Each time we teach might be the only chance we get to help someone, so always teach the most important thing. When I went to Twelve-Step meetings, I was told, Dont drink, ask for help, and go to meetings. This advice changed my life and, as a teacher, I have challenged myself to find the same simplicity in how I communicate with yoga students. So I look for the most important thing and break it down into three simple steps. This inquiry has led to my understanding of yoga in terms of

Think back to your first yoga class . What didnt come naturally then, probably feels more comfortable now. Right?

We can all agree on this the more classes you teach as a yoga instructor, the more comfortable youll feel guiding others through their practice.

But, if all youre doing is spending time teaching others, youre missing out on a very important element of teaching that could level up your game entirely. What is that element?

Being a student.

As teachers of anything, we are always a student first. With this mentality, comes humility and surrender. Your practice becomes your teacher.

Every time you step onto your mat as a student, even if its to practice something familiar in your body, you learn something new. With this learning comes a deeper understanding of yourself and the intricacies of the practice. With this understanding, comes a greater gift to share with your students.

Knowing this, why do we as teachers let our practice suffer so easily?

It can be difficult to maintain a personal practice when we spend the majority of our time at the studio teaching. Our time is precious and so often we think we are getting our practice in when teaching others.

This is not the case. Nor is it an excuse.

As teachers, we need to prioritize our practice and our well-being, before we begin to think of teaching others. Practice what you preach!
