Prevents Ibs And Other Digestive Problems
Ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, constipationall of these can be exacerbated by stress. So if you stress less, youll suffer less. Yoga, like any physical exercise, can ease constipationand theoretically lower the risk of colon cancerbecause moving the body facilitates more rapid transport of food and waste products through the bowels. And, although it has not been studied scientifically, yogis suspect that twisting poses may be beneficial in getting waste to move through the system.

But you don’t want an activated PNS all the time. Youd be a chill zombie. You want to be more like a calm and collected person whos on the ball. That involves a balance between your SNS and PNS, says Amy Wheeler, PhD, who serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Yoga Therapists and is a professor at California State University in San Bernardino. What yoga can teach you is to use your SNS when you need it for clarity, alertness and focus without going into the fight or flight response, she says. The ultimate goal of yoga is to be calm and alert, she notes.
Yoga is working on an even higher plane to drive down the stresses of the day, put them in perspective and help you cope better in the future when not-so-great things come your way.

Builds Awareness For Transformation
Yoga and meditation build awareness. And the more aware you are, the easier it is to break free of destructive emotions like anger. Studies suggest that chronic anger and hostility are as strongly linked to heart attacks as are smoking, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol. Yoga appears to reduce anger by increasing feelings of compassion and interconnection and by calming the nervous system and the mind. It also increases your ability to step back from the drama of your own life, to remain steady in the face of bad news or unsettling events. You can still react quickly when you need toand theres evidence that yoga speeds reaction timebut you can take that split second to choose a more thoughtful approach, reducing suffering for yourself and others.

Why Does Yoga Feel So Good 10 Great Reminders
Why does Yoga feel so good?; Most people who practice Yoga regularly know the sense of well-being Yoga can generate, but may not necessarily know all the reasons for it.;;Modern science plays a growing role in teasing out these benefits in greater detail.
Read on to explore 10 of the key reasons why Yoga has the capacity to make you feel so good .
Your Body Is Physically Holding On To Emotional Tension And Pain
For centuries, some cultures have held strong beliefs that mind, body, and what you might call a soul are intrinsically linked, and one cannot treat an ailment in one without addressing all three.
This holistic view of healing holds that our bodies remember and store everything that has happened to us in our lives, from trauma to intense joy. When we physically reinvigorate the parts of the body that hold these emotions, as can happen during yoga, we also release those feelings.
For example, stretching and opening the hips and back can release stress and anxiety in many people, which is a good thing when that anxiety is mild. The physical stress leaves the body and is gently processed through breath and focus. If the anxiety is very strong, however, it can overwhelm the person holding the pose, and deeper inward focus and healing are required.
Through yogas physical opening of your bodys muscles, tissues, and organs, deep-seated fears and sadness can be brought to the surface. Acknowledgement of the root cause of these feelings can then be addressed mentally, emotionally, and physically.
I encourage everyone who may have experienced emotional release during a yoga class to view it as a gift, and try not to be afraid of what it has to offer. It may not feel like it at the time, but thinking about what poses make you cry and which make you laugh out loud with sudden joy is a real opportunity to explore what youre storing in which parts of your body.

It incorporates breathing exercises, meditation and poses designed to encourage relaxation and reduce stress.
Practicing yoga is said to come with many benefits for both mental and physical health, though not all of these benefits have been backed by science.

Learn To Breathe And Youll Experience Tears
Max Strom is a noteworthy yoga teacher and author of;A Life Worth Breathing. He shares in that book how no one told him about crying. However, later, he found a teacher that understood the prevalence of emotion.
When you learn to breathe well, at times you will inevitably experience tears.
When the tears come, I find they typically last about a year. Its like this repository of emotion we commonly call baggage takes time to unwind, feel and go through.
But theres no rush. Instead, in typical yoga fashion, it takes as long as it takes.;;

Yoga Takes The Edge Off
With all of those broad benefits, you want to know exactly how a simple sun salutation or tree pose changes your brain. While research is still building, Greenberg notes that one potential reason is yogas big impact on dialing down chronic stress. We know stress is a very fertile ground for many physical and mental ailments, he says, also pointing out that evidence shows yoga in general can help improve mood and emotional regulation, both of which are associated with reductions in the stress hormone cortisol. Even better: yogis feel this even after a single class.
Take one recent study in the journal Frontiers in Immunology, which found that mind-body exercises like yoga actually decrease the cascade of inflammation that so often sits simmering in the body and wreaking havoc due to chronic stress.

You Could Combat Your Anxiety When You Do Yoga Every Day
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 30 percent of adults in the United States will grapple with an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. Additionally, women are more likely than men to develop an anxiety disorder, rendering ladies more at risk for panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, social anxiety, agoraphobia, and more.;
One way you can fight back against present and future anxiety is to do yoga every day, as noted by;IndigoStray Conger, a licensed therapist and certified yoga teacher. “Anxiety thrives on future oriented thinking, increasing as you catastrophize about what might happen,” she told The List. “Practicing yoga every day will reduce anxiety because you are staying mindful in the moment.” That’s thanks to the union between your breath, thoughts, and movement, which keeps your thinking from spiraling out of control.
That’s the case whether you cultivate an active, strength-building practice or a more restorative, gentle practice aimed at calming the mind, says Conger. So you win either way!
Yoga Molds Your Brain In Very Good Ways As You Age
In addition to keeping your body young, yoga turns back the years on your brain, too. In one 2017 study published in the journal International Pschogeriatrics, older adults with mild cognitive impairment spent 12 weeks either practicing Kundalini yoga or memory training. While both groups memory improved, the yoga group saw a boost in executive functioning and emotional resilience, possibly due to the chanting in this yoga that strengthens verbal and visual skills, the researchers report.
Additional observational research on mindfulness and meditation sheds light on how classes may actually influence your brain structure, says Greenberg. Studies looking at how the brain changes before and after meditation found that brain structures involved in awareness, attention and self-related thinking changed in structure and increased in volume, he says. Plus, theres your memory. After eight weeks of meditation training, research found that the hippocampus, which is involved in learning and memory, developed more gray matter density, he notes.

Tips To Work With Emotions In Yoga
1Being Emotional Is Normal
Realize connecting to your emotions and even crying is normal.;;
2Feel Your Feelings
Yoga teachers often enjoin you to feel your feelings. Thats a bit loaded because many of us are only painting with five or six colors on the emotional palette when a multitude is possible.;;
Interoception, or knowing how you feel, is inherently vulnerable and is an asset.;;
Getting to know your feelings will help you connect not only with yourself but others. We call this empathy. And dont be afraid to label your emotions. Labeling lets you take your power back.
One more thing. I often advise students to be aware of their emotions in the days following their practice. Just because we stir things up in one yoga session does not mean they will resolve there.
People think of yoga as an everyday practice because of its physical nature. However, its more about putting yourself through a process frequently. Since youll be practicing regularlydefined as 3-5 times a week, every week, you have plenty of time to sift through your feelings.
Remember, yoga is always a go at your own pace activity. You get to decide how much you feel.;;
Likewise, you may try to go faster and find nothing comes up. Yoga is a practice of little by little. This applies to all of us but especially if you experience anxiety.;;
Repetition is vital in yoga.;;
5Act Or Not;;
Sometimes our feelings can inspire us to act and make a change in our lives.;;
Do Continue To Practice Yoga Gently
One of the absolute best ways to cope with soreness after yoga is to do more yoga, says Fishman. Concentrate on the areas that hurt and try to gradually;relieve tension and tightness, he says. Becoming inactive because activity gives you some soreness is a very poor response to your soreness, and is likely to leave you in even more pain the next time you practice.

How Yoga Affects Your Emotions
Maybe your discomfort from stretching your hips during pigeon pose elicits an intense emotional response, or ending your practice by lying down on your back might activate your water works. Those surges of feels make complete sense, says Kelly Clifton Turner, a yoga instructor and the director of education for national yoga chain YogaSix. “Hip openers such as pigeon can be intense while in a prone position, which allows great introspection and release,” she tells Bustle. “Other poses from the ‘heart-openers’ or backbends such as camel can also bring people to tears. Savasana is also a pose that a lot of people break down in.” Sure, you’re “just” lying on your back, but Clifton Turner says you’re not the only one who’s got a tough time dealing with the release.
How Little Material Is There
Bet you were wondering when wed get to this one! The beauty of the yoga pant is that they feel like youre wearing nothing. And thats kind of because you are. The fabric is often so thin, or so stretchy, that were able to feel the breeze through the weave of the cloth. Not to mention how stretchy they are. The actual amount of material covering us looks like it would barely fit on the hanger, but sure enough all the important bits are locked in place. Ladies, weve talked to the guys about this, and you can be sure that they notice. They see just how little material there is covering our bodies, and they LOVE it. Its the ultimate temptation, thin enough to feel muscles, but still a block between skin-on-skin contact. Consider slipping on your pair of yoga pants the next date you go on. It could lead to slipping out of your pair of yoga pants!
You Feel Weak Rigid And Incapable
The reason for feeling this way: again, any new excise you do, or any new demand you put on your body takes time to learn and adjust to it. In Yoga we combine a specific way of breathing, we introduce many cues on how to align the body in a healthy way, and slowly we attempt more complex postures. Over time, through this practice we build a new, closer relationship with ourselves. However, it does take some classes to learn the basics before your start to flow through the classes.;Also to be mentioned is that you are actually supposed to feel challenged – in each and every class! You can always expect some ineasy momenst which will push you beyond your body & mind limits. We want you to safely leave your comfort zone and try something new. This is what makes you conquer your self-doubts and rise above what you thought was possible for you. This is an integrative part of the practice, and we will keep including challenging aspects in every class so that you can keep growing beyond your doubts and fears.
What you can do about it? Be patient, keep practicing regularly and listen to the cues the teacher gives. Always come back to your breath , ask the teacher if you have a specific doubt about your abilities, give yourself empathy for feeling not perfect, and motivate yourself to try again tomorrow – trust in the process of working on yourself!
