What Is Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is the foundation of all modern practices. The literal translation of Hatha is Sun Moon and it implies a practice meant to balance the passive and assertive energies present in every living being through movement.
Gentler than Vinyasa and more physically demanding than a Yin practice, Hatha is perfect for beginners and advanced students alike, always encouraging the practitioner to bring an open mind and deeper sense of self awareness to the mat every single time.
These daytime sessions will focus on the regeneration of your internal organ system, working through yoga sequences designed to detoxify and release any physical or emotional stagnation within while cultivating a deeper sense of wellness and presence.

Lisa Petersen, Somatics
The term Somatic means embodied or of the body. Somatics is a therapeutic movement practice which uses small, slow and gentle movements to re-educate the brain so that it can relax and move the muscles more functionally. Its wonderful for muscles which have become tight or restricted due to developmental reasons, habitual patterns, emotional stress, injuries or trauma. Other types of yoga draw in elements of Somatics for example with free movement explorations in a Vinyasa or Slow Flow class. Watch So what is Somatics? with Lisa Petersen.

What Restorative Yoga Does
While yang-style yoga gets your blood pumping and stretches your muscles, Yin Yoga helps reshape your tissues over time. But in your Restorative Yoga class, you shouldnt be doing either of those things your body should be completely passive, allowing you to rest and recover. Like Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga makes heavy use of props, but the props are designed to cradle your body in a way that allows it to completely rest and promote healing.
Some restorative practices can be useful after an injury, but theyre also great for letting your body rest after a more active yoga class even a Yin Yoga class. Youve probably done a little bit of Restorative Yoga already if youve ever held Savasana after a class, especially if youve made any adjustments, like placing your legs up a wall or using a bolster under your knees, to make it more comfortable.
But its still about moving your body, even if you lay passive for long periods of time in each pose. Judith Lasater, a disciple of legendary yogi B.K.S. Iyengar, helped develop Restorative Yoga into what it is today. In her book Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times, she notes that she often refers to restorative poses as active relaxation.
While theyre different in terms of how they promote strength and healing, both Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga can help promote wellness and whole-body health, especially with a regular yang practice.

Devotion To A Genuine Path
The first key to success is devoting yourself to teachings with not only traditional roots and genuine, verifiable results, but also choosing a path that harmonizes with your personal temperament.
In our school, the;curriculum and teachings combine Tantra Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, and Hatha Yoga, as well as Raja Yoga, some Karma Yoga, and others.
Together, they embody a very;potent and powerful path;of evolution. The second key to success is the actual practice. All Yoga is eminently practical and, without this, it is not alive or effective as a spiritual science within us and its results cannot be demonstrated.

Yin Yoga Oder Vinyasa Yoga Was Brauchst Du Und Was Passt Zu Dir

Hatha Yoga As A Physical Practice
The table below illustrates the key differences between Hatha yoga as a type of physical yoga and vinyasa.;;
Because both practices rely on the modern canon of postures enumerated by BKS Iyengar., you will find the same poses in each.
Vinyasa is associated with being faster, but you are just as likely to encounter a slow-paced vinyasa class as quick. The real distinction is the consistency of movement in vinyasa; it keeps moving from posture to posture through linking transitions. By contrast, hatha yoga will often break a pose, pause, and then start another.;;
Vinyasa yoga is associated with having a cardiovascular component, especially when the movement is quicker. The longer holds and frequent breaks are not conducive to raising the heart rate in the same way in hatha.;
Ujjayi pranayama is the primary breath of vinyasa, while hatha yoga will prioritize different breathing methods depending on the classs goals.;;
Poses are traditionally held for 5 breaths during vinyasa unless you are flowing, which may be one breath, one movement. Hatha may hold for as little as 30 seconds and as long as several minutes.;
There is more repetition of specific sequences within a vinyasa class, while there is more repetition of postures in a hatha yoga class. In the case of vinyasa, this aids in accessing a flow state, while in hatha, it is to deepen the investigation in a given posture.;;
Fazit Yin Yoga Vs Vinyasa Yoga: Same Same But Different
Wer schon mal in Asien war, kennt den Satz Same same but different.

The Definition Of Hatha Yoga
You pronounce hatha, like hot ta, where the a rhymes with la, ma, and pa and it has a hard t, not like hath tha, as in bath and math.;;
The literal meaning of hatha is force or forceful. It also means to strike a blow. I know this can be shocking, especially if you know yoga to be about peace, love, and understanding.;;
Think of force as what you generate with your efforts, like powering an old school flashlight with a hand crank. It gets a little more poetic, though, as youll see.
Hatha refers to the practices of the body, so we typically think of yoga postures being hatha, but so too are breathing, eating, and others. We term these practices as somatic.;
Some scholars, notably Eliade say hatha can also mean sun and moon. Theos Bernard concurred, back in 1947, but says in a footnote: The traditional meaning of the word hatha is force, hence this form of Yoga is sometimes called forceful Yoga.;;
Styles Of Yoga And The Differences Between Each Style
9 styles of yoga and the differences between each style.; First on the list is; Ashtanga Yoga.; This yoga style that teaches the eight limbs of yoga. The focus is on controlling ones breathing through the movements, controlling the senses by not allowing distractions to interrupt the art, and by deep concentration.; Bikram Yoga is a yoga posture performed while in a room where the temperatures are higher than normal. Its also known as hot yoga and for that reason, should never be practiced by those expecting a child.
Hatha Yoga, is another style of yoga, with this style,; the movements are not as fast as some other types of yoga. It can be considered as a springboard for beginners to discover the basic elements of what yoga is all about.
Theyre based on morality with our fellow man to seek peace and to be honest. Kripalu Yoga is a combination of three forces. This is where the mind,; and the body interact to create a whole you. Within that whole, you are a flowing river of energy that can be disturbed by things that drain the energy and leave you feeling hopeless and helpless.
Kundalini Yoga is a powerful type of yoga that focuses on the energy within the body. The focus is usually pinpointed through an area. In the old language, the definition for this type of yoga is known as energy and also as coiled and is likened to the accuracy of a coiled-up snake.
Most of the yoga styles poses mentioned here; is perfect for beginners.

Yin Yoga: Be Part Of The Yin Crowd
Forget fast-paced ashtanga or sweaty Bikram slow, simple yin yoga is the class to choose if you want to calm the mind and stretch the body. Just make sure you wear some warm clothes
The benefits attributed to yoga increased flexibility and strength, more energy and better posture should be enough to get anyone on the mat, especially now there is a plethora of classes to choose from if you want to work on your core, break a sweat or even learn handstands. But what is on offer for those who just want to relax, or runners and amateur athletes who want the benefits of stretching without exhausting themselves for future training sessions?
Yin yoga can complement an already active life or help those who feel distracted by mind chatter. Constantly emailing, texting and posting social media updates has led, for some, to mental overload and a feeling that we are not good enough or achieving enough. Yin yoga can provide an antidote to this.
Ten years ago, there was but one regular yin yoga class in London. Now there are about 50, and classes are springing up around the country as people feel the need to slow down and just be.
The term yin yoga comes from the Taoist tradition. Yang relates to movement, often repetitive movement, creating heat in the body. Yin is about finding stillness and cooling the body. And, the theory goes, we need both to come into balance to stay in optimum condition.

Hatha Yoga: Great For Beginners
The word hatha actually means the physical practice of yoga, so it could be applied to any practice. It also refers to the combination of the sun, ha, and the moon, tha. When a practice is labelled as Hatha, it typically means a class that will include basic yoga poses combined with deep breathing, focusing on the breath, and meditation.
Hatha classes are great for people new to yoga or who want to focus more on the gentle, unhurried, meditative aspects versus a practice that is also physically demanding. Students can expect a powerful experience of self-transformation to align the whole body, mind, and soul.

As the name suggests, in a Vinyasa flow class the yoga poses flow from one to another in synchrony with breath. You might see Vinyasa yoga described as simply flow yoga. It is one of the broadest styles of yoga as there is no standard sequence, and the style, pace and intensity will vary depending on the teacher. Vinyasa yoga can range from Ashtanga-inspired Power yoga to more creative and mindful flows. Classes can build up to a peak pose or they can be sequenced around particular yoga themes and concepts such as the chakras.
