A Daily Yoga Practice May Make You Happier And Improve Your Overall Well
At the end of the day, you should always do what makes you happy. If something isn’t serving you, why engage with it? The good news is that, according to a 2020 Project Happiness report, yoga indeed leads to increased happiness. So, you know, just in case you need one more reason to practice yoga every day, yoga can quite literally change your life for the better.
“Very few people know that happiness plays an important role in maintaining good health both mental and physical,” writes Dr. Anil Kashyap, doctor of philosophy. “Not only this, but happiness also has positive effects on a person’s productivity, well-being, public behavior, and mutual relations.” He concludes that some yogic practices can enhance the level of happiness in your life. Others agree. “By improving mindfulness, it simultaneously helps to boost compassion, gratitude, and ‘flow’ states, all of which contribute to greater happiness,” Harvard’s Healthbeat explained. And who could say no to all that?
After A Few Weeks I Was Getting Compliments On My Posture And Surprisingly My Complexion
Although I didn’t feel like I was getting as much of a workout from yoga compared to my previous routines, I noticed that my balance had improved. I’m notoriously clumsy, but I felt more stable and graceful than usual.
I also started to look and feel less bloated. And after nearly three weeks of yoga, a few of my friends commented that I seemed taller and my mom pointed out my improved posture.
But the compliments that really shocked me were the ones about my face.
Toward the end of the month, numerous people told me that my face seemed more lifted and sculpted than usual and some even asked me if I’d recently gotten a facial since my skin had a slightly dewy, radiant look.
Since I’d received so many comments on my complexion, I did some digging and found out that “yoga glow” is a real thing.
Yoga can increase the blood flow to your face and contribute to less inflammation, meaning that it can help your skin appear more glowy and less bloated or puffy than usual.

Gives Your Lungs Room To Breathe
Yogis tend to take fewer breaths of greater volume, which is both calming and more efficient. A 1998 study published in The Lancet taught a yogic technique known as complete breathing to people with lung problems due to congestive heart failure. After one month, their average respiratory rate decreased from 13.4 breaths per minute to 7.6. Meanwhile, their exercise capacity increased significantly, as did the oxygen saturation of their blood. In addition, yoga has been shown to improve various measures of lung function, including the maximum volume of the breath and the efficiency of the exhalation.
Yoga also promotes breathing through the nose, which filters the air, warms it , and humidifies it, removing pollen and dirt and other things youd rather not take into your lungs.
I Don’t Think I’d Replace My Weight
I was a bit surprised that I didn’t have a leaner or more toned look by the end of the month, especially since I’d been pushing my body pretty hard to complete some of these poses.
But generally, I wasn’t disappointed since losing weight and getting toned wasn’t my goal, nor is it the goal of yoga. Yoga is meant to be a lifestyle practice rather than an exercise routine and it wasn’t like the version of it I was practicing was overly strenuous or intense.
But even though I enjoyed the mental and physical benefits of yoga, I won’t continue doing it every single day since I’d rather devote more time to my usual strength and endurance workouts.
That said, I liked how it helped me work on my tight leg muscles so I will definitely start doing two poses a week and maybe I’ll eventually be able to complete a downward-facing dog.

Im A Beginner How Many Times Per Week Should I Do Yoga
Beginners should be worried less about fast results and more about forming a habit.
Most probably you didnt get on the mat just to get a killer body and six-pack abs in 2 weeks anyway. Firstly, because its nearly impossible in such a short term. Secondly, yoga isnt the place for super quick transformations.
Start doing yoga as often as your schedule allows. Even an hour every week is beneficial.
Naturally, the more you do yoga, the more youll improve. In this case, however, consistency is more important than overall length. Youll likely see more progress when practicing half an hour every day than two hours once a week.
Theres a higher chance of sticking to the habit if youre not forcing it. So listen to your body cues. If youre exhausted but have a fast Vinyasa class scheduled, theres no shame in taking frequent rest throughout the session and modifying challenging poses.
Make yoga a happy place where youre comfortable in your own body. It should become an activity that youll be glad to free your time for. This way, even if youve got a busy schedule and have time for only one studio class a week, youll grow willing to come back to the practice at home, during your lunch break or whenever you have as little as five spare minutes.

What you really need is meta motivation: the motivation to train even when youre not motivated. If you rely on your feelings to decide whether to workout or not, you never will. As you know, your feelings are designed to keep you caged up in your comfort pit. Your feelings want you to be safe, not successful.
That said, there is a trick you can use to get yourself motivated to workout, and its backed up with research. Its called the few minutes principle.
The basic idea is that procrastinators often put off doing certain things because the size of the task in front of them seems too overwhelming. By deciding to just go to the gym for a few minutes youll often see the workout through to completion.

I Did 10 Minutes Of Yoga Every Day For A Month And This Is What Happened
For nearly 6 months, all I talked about was doing yoga. “My back hurts when I wake up,” I’d say. Or “God, my posture is terrible!” These exclamations were inevitably followed by “I’m going to try yogamaybe that’ll help.”
But I didn’t. Sure, I talked about doing yoga every day. I even took the opportunity to snag a yoga mat and a few yoga DVDs from a coworker who was cleaning out her office, but I didn’t actually do yoga.
After getting off work at 6:00 PM, taking the hour-and-a-half-long subway ride home, making dinner, eating dinner, doing dishes, and getting myself ready for work the next day, I’d glance at my yoga mat gathering dust in the corner and flop into bed to watch Netflix instead.
Eventually, I got tired of saying the same thing over and over again . So to make myself accountable, I told my editor I’d volunteer to do a whole month of yoga, at least 10 minutes every day, and write about it. I found some online yoga classes to stream and diligently followed along. Here’s what I learned.
I went into this ready for my muscles to scream at me and for my body to yell, “I just can’t bend that way!” Which, to be honest, it sometimes did. But it came as a total shock to me that the hardest part wasn’t trying to stand on one leg while I held my ankle in one hand and pointed toward the wall with the other . It was breathing.
