What Are The Specific Health Conditions Improved By Yoga
Rheumatoid arthritis: Rheumatoid arthritis affects about 1.3 million Americans — most of them are women. Yoga may help people with arthritis deal with pain and stiffness, improve their range of motion, and increase strength for daily activities.
Multiple sclerosis: Certain forms of yoga may help reduce fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis , according to researchers at Oregon Health and Science University who adapted the Iyengar form of yoga for people with MS.
Individuals who are inactive or elderly: If you are inactive, yoga may be the ideal exercise for both mind and body to begin your activity life. Yoga also provides stress reduction in addition to strengthening the bones and muscles and improving posture as well as overall health and vitality. Because you don’t have to be in peak physical shape to practice yoga, it is the right activity for sedentary people and for seniors who might not otherwise exercise. Instructors can help modify yoga poses. You don’t have to get down on the floor or a mat to practice yoga. It can be started while you simply sit in a chair.
Ongoing research: The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health is evaluating yoga as a treatment for chronic low back pain, insomnia, and other conditions.

Whos using it: Jivana Heyman, founder of Accessible Yoga
Why did you pick it?
I chose Kajabi for my first-ever Accessible Yoga online training because its a learning management system that offers lots of tools in one integrated package. I really like that it has a very clean and organized user experience so that the online training experience is easy and accessible. It also has lots of marketing and website building tools, as well as a vibrant community of users.
How does it work?
Its a very substantial tool for building all kinds of online businesses, but most often its used for online schools and courses. It houses all our needs in one place: mailing lists, marketing email pipelines, special offers, and support for online learning with the ability to track students progress through a course, as well as assessments.
What should teachers keep in mind?
This system may be too big and expensive for someone who is only offering public classes. But if youre offering online teacher training, this could be a great tool for you. Its not a streaming service, so we also need to use Zoom to stream the classes and then well upload the videos to the platform.
What are the upsides?
Any challenges to watch out for?
Well, offering online teacher training is new to me, so Im just figuring it all out now! It has a monthly fee, so there is a substantial investment and consideration about paying the monthly fees for a long time if I want to keep growing on this platform.

Today, when I was teaching my yoga class, a theme just came to me. I was inspired by the idea what can yoga do for you.
Generally when Im teaching a class, I create my theme prior to my class today the universe was my guide. I was in the moment and was motivated by the asana itself, especially since my iPod was not working. I was forced to not rely on my music for inspiration, but on the poses to bring inspiration to the class. The theme of my class was the life lessons of yoga.
What did each asana offer me on and off the mat?
Here Are Some Of The Life Lessons That Yoga Has Taught Me
Follow your heart:
Once opened, the possibilities for love and joy are endless! Once in a job I hated and living life in a perpetual pattern of negative thought, I discovered yoga and it helped open my mind to endless possibilities. Yoga gave me the strength and wisdom to get rid of my doubts, fears and worries. Instead, I am able to listen to my inner self and follow my heart. Without yoga I wouldn’t be where I am today- an entrepreneur, who opened her own yoga studio in an effort to give back to a community that gave her so much. I want to help others find their true path and empower them through their own yoga journey of healing and self discovery.
You are capable of more than you give yourself credit for:
I believe that whatever my goals are, I can accomplish them with determination, hard work, and persistence. For example, just a few years ago, I never thought I could do a handstand. But I can do them now because I just kept practicing, gaining strength, and learning the technique little by little. Sometimes we put limits on ourselves, but we can do more than what we give ourselves credit for. I know things can seem scary sometimes, but it’s in those moments, we know that we are alive. Plus, once weve achieved our goals, we are rewarded with a feeling of self accomplishment and satisfaction.
Live in the present:
Just breathe:
Don’t create unnecessary tension:
Dont take anything for granted:
It’s ok to fall:
Be patient:
Alignment is key:

Remind Students Of Their Breath And Teach To What You See Offering An Alignment Tip Or Two Only As Needed
Look at whats actually happening for your students in the pose. Is there something you could suggest that would make it safer or more comfortable for them? For example, in warrior II, its common for the front knee to drop in toward the big-toe side of the foot , which can put knee ligaments at risk for injury. You dont have to get into all of the anatomy , but a simple draw your front knee toward the pinky-toe side of your foot can be super-helpful here. Or, if you notice that a student is having a hard time with balance, suggest that they widen their stance, walking the front foot a little more to that side, or demonstrate options for practicing with a chair or at a wall.
And then? Is everyone safe? Are they breathing? Fabulous! Theres no need to be super-critical about alignment. The aim in a beginner class is to provide your students with a positive experience of yoga, not to pick at them so much that they feel like they cant do anything right.
Theres no need to be super-critical about alignment.

What Facts Should I Know About Yoga
- Yoga is a systematic practice of physical exercise, breath control, relaxation, diet control, and positive thinking, and meditation aimed at developing harmony in the body, mind, and environment. The practice entails low-impact physical activity, postures , breathing techniques , relaxation, and meditation. Most people are familiar with the physical poses or yoga positions but don’t know that yoga involves so much more.
What are the health benefits of yoga?
- In the health fields, yoga techniques are being applied in health promotion programs, substance abuse treatment programs, and as a complementary treatment for diseases such as anxiety disorders, depression, coronary heart disease, cancers, and HIV/AIDS. Yoga is a low-cost self-help approach to well-being.
- The origin is a Sanskrit word Yog meaning union. Yoga is a union of the organ systems in the body with the consciousness in the mind. Philosophically, yoga produces a union of body, mind, and energy to bring about a state of equanimity . Progressing to an even more advanced state, blending science and philosophy, one experiences a union of body, mind, internal energy, and the all-pervading cosmic energy, resulting in better physical health, mental control, and, ultimately, self-realization.
What Do You Want To Teach
. In other words, what do you want your classes to emphasize? Is your style more music and movement or more quiet meditation? Do you envision leading multi-hour workshops or camps, or weekly 45 minutes classes? Maybe you are excited to lead pop up classes at a farmers market or focus on trauma-informed yoga classes with foster families. When thinking about what your classes will feel like, it is always nice to consider what part of the yoga experience you love the most. If you are excited by what you are presenting, if what you are sharing lights you up, youll be a more effective and authentic teacher.
If youre thinking about teaching groups of children with special needs or requirements, you may wish to take some specialty courses that dig deeper into teaching unique populations. There are many options for continuing your education in topics like trauma-informed yoga, accessible yoga, diversity and inclusion, yoga in the classroom, yoga for children with Autism , and beyond. There are elective classes for teaching children with anxiety and depression, with eating disorders, and teenage mothers. As their yoga teacher, you could be their safe place, their source of calm, so gathering the most tools and techniques you can through continuing education is critical.

Can Yoga Help Prevent Falls
Yes. Balance and muscle-strengthening exercise at least twice a week are recommended to reduce the risk of falls, especially in older age.
However, falls may sometimes be caused by a health condition, in which case it’s a good idea to see a GP or visit a falls clinic at a local hospital.
Go Easy On The Yoga Jargon
Dont assume that students will automatically know what energy lines, “hug the midline,””engage mula bandha, or anjali mudra mean. Use terminology that non-yogis will understand, and when you present some new vocab, define it! Same goes for asana names. If you choose to call poses by their Sanskrit names, explain what youre saying
Use terminology that non-yogis will understand.
And how much yoga-talk should you include ? Depends on the interest level of your students . Which brings us to the next helpful hint…

You Dont Have To Be A Super Asana Performer
Many people are afraid to start teaching because they think their personal practice is not good enough. Dont forget that everybody has some limitations in their bodies. Some people are very flexible but lack strength, some people have strength but lack flexibility, and some have both but lack balance and concentration.
Every yoga teacher has difficulty with certain poses. And thats great! Because we can use that to remind our students that we should honor, not resist, our limitations and view these limitations as guides instead of a hinderance.
My best teacher was the one in a wheel chair, but his knowledge and teaching methods made up for that. It is much more important to know the alignments of the asanas and their benefits and to be able to explain this very clearly to the students than it is to be able to do all the asanas perfectly.
Most of the students understand this and dont expect their teacher to be a super asana performer.
S To Becoming A Yoga Teacher
Speak to yoga teachers from different styles and yoga studios and ask yourself some questions:
Do you have any prospective places where you could teach once you’re certified?
Do you plan on quitting your current job to be a full-time yoga teacher?
In terms of your training, how will you juggle the courses, work, family, and other responsibilities as you go to school?
These are all worthwhile questions to consider.

Resistance Only Makes Things Harder
If you strain your body or over-compensate while attempting a yoga pose, the move inevitably becomes more difficult. Youre trying too hard. Your fear of doing it wrong creates resistance. If you impose your will to try to make the pose look a certain way, you will instead be more rigid where you should be flexible.
