Cathedral Rock Trail In Sedona

Our Sedona Yoga Retreat and Vortex Hike!

Hiking Distance: 1.5 milesTrail Difficulty: Moderate

This is a short, steep climb into the saddle points or gaps of Cathedral Rock. The gaps are where you can supposedly feel the energies. The towering side rocks keep the saddle points shaded and breezy, but the lower portion of the trail is bare red rock with total sun exposure be careful if youre doing this in the summer.

To get to the Trailhead From the 89A / 179 Y take 179 south 3.4 miles turn right on Back O Beyond Road for 0.6 miles. The parking lot is on your left. With an elevation change of 600ft Cathedral Rock Trail is a little steep hike, but easily doable with kids in decent shape. I did this hike on a previous trip.

Easy Sedona Vortex Hikes

Sedona is commonly known as a healing destination due to the powerful electromagnetic vortexes in the area. It is believed that the ancient native people used to come to this area to meditate and perform rituals. There are seven vortex sites around Sedona, and Native Americans believe the vortexes aid in spiritual transformation.

Best Views: Cathedral Rock

Most hikes in Sedona will get you to endless jaw-dropping views, but Cathedral Rocks view is special because you feel like you are in the middle of the red rock towers. This steep and quick route gets you 600 feet high in 0.7 miles. There is a scrambling section of steep slick rock, but most can make it.

Directions: From the Y in Sedona head south on Hwy 179 S to Back O Beyond Rd.

Best For An Adventurous Hike: Bear Mountain Trail

Hiking In Sedona

A hard, out, and back, 6-mile hike that you should plan to spend 4 to 5 hours on. This is open all year but extremely hot in the summer. There are stunning views all around after summitting four different steps to get to the top of this mountain.

Directions: From the Y in Sedona, go west on Hwy 89A 3.1 miles to mile post 371 Dry Creek Road. Turn right toward Boynton Pass Road then take a left onto Boynton Pass and continue another 1.2 miles to the trailhead parking on the left. This parking lot is shared with Doe Mountain Trail.

The Hike That Gets You Up On Top Of Something: Doe Mountain

Cosmic Rays guidebook describes this as climbing sky island to a vast panorama. A 3.6 mile out and back is available all year and a moderate hiking effort considering the summit you reach. On top of Doe Mountain, you will be 400 feet up on a narrow flat top that is easy to explore and get vast views from every direction.

Directions: From the Y in Sedona, go west on Hwy 89A 3.1 miles to milepost 371 Dry Creek Road. Turn right toward Boynton Pass Road then take a left onto Boynton Pass and continue another 1.2 miles to the trailhead parking on the left.

Best Hikes For When It’s Hot

When it’s hot, most of us head for Oak Creek Canyon. West Fork hike fits in this category, but there are other great hikes that take you to the creek as well. At Midgley Bridge, you have your choice of three hikes. The Huckaby Trail passes under the bridge and descends down to the creek where you can rest with your feet in the chilly water. You can continue on the trail for another five miles to the trailhead on Schnebly Hill road or just go back to Midgley Bridge. The Wilson Canyon trail explores the wash upstream, following in the steps of pioneer Richard Wilson who tracked a wounded Grizzly and was then promptly killed by the bear. And finally, the Wilson Mountain trailhead also begins at the Bridge. Here you can ascend right up to the Ponderosa Pine forest that grows on the Colorado Plateau 1,500 feet above, but be warned this hike is strenuous without much shade once you begin.

From vortex, yoga, or meditation hikes to historical, archeological hikes, there is a Sedona hiking guide service to match your interests and preferred hiking pace. Where To Stay In Sedona

Vortex Yoga Hiking In Sedona at Rachel’s Knoll

We stayed in Four Seasons Scottsdale for a week during Spring training in March and drove to Sedona as a day trip. But I have this beautiful LAuberge de Sedona on my wishlist to stay at, next time we visit. It is located right in the center of Uptown Sedona and is walking distance to Main Street, which is full of shops and restaurants. LAuberge has two of Sedonas best restaurants on property and about 80 rooms and cottages all with stunning views of the red rocks or Oak Creek.

Surrounded by stunning views of red rock Boynton Canyon and the Coconino National Forest, Enchantment Resort delivers a luxury escape along with views of the rugged Southwest landscape. There is a Hilton nearby as well. You can go on hot air balloon rides, visit the sacred vortexes and go on hikes and horseback rides through streams, desert landscape, and canyon walls.

So the big question Did we feel the vortex and the sacred energy? Well, we originally had not even planned on hiking, we were going to do a leisurely drive and check out Tlaquepaque and have lunch at the Secret Garden. But after climbing up Bell rock, we were hooked and wanted to check out a few other Sedona Vortex hikes. We did see the twisted trees and trust me even if we didnt feel any magical energies there was a certain calmness in the air, we felt rejuvenated and left inspired maybe that is what is special about Sedona!

Can You Really Feel The Sedona Vortex Vibrations

Hiking In Sedona

If you find yourself in Sedona, take your time and spend a few days here, at least a night or two to connect and look for the Sedona vortex sites and feel these special vibrations. The important thing to remember is to have an open mind. The twisted trunks and barks of the trees are proof that there is some special force here. To really put the theory of vortex to a test embark on a few easy vortex hikes in Sedona and test it for yourself! If nothing else you will be rewarded with some amazing views!

It was surreal to be surrounded by these giant red boulders, mountains, and green valleys. The deep red colors of the rocks are due to iron oxide or rust. It is believed that Sedonas geological landscape of dolomite, hematite, and limestone, creates powerful and healing interactions with our bodies.

Best Loop: Airport Loop

Sedona Vortex Explained

This is my favorite loop because the views never stop. A 3.5-mile loop that ends at a vortex. This trail circumnavigates the rim of Airport Mesa. This trail is level compared to other Sedona hikes, but very rocky making it feel extra adventurous.

Directions: Head to Sedonas airport and turn left on airport road. The vortex parking lot is on the left 0.5 miles up the hill. The hike begins behind the guardrail across the road from the parking lot.

Sedona’s western canyons are great for sunsets. Just past Boynton Pass you can park at the Doe Mesa trailhead and have a choice of two hikes: Doe Mesa is a moderate one-hour ascent to a plateau with great views everywhere you look it’s across the street from Bear Mountain. This is not an easy hike with an elevation gain of 1,800 feet , but the locals will tell you it’s the best trail around just bring lots of water and sunscreen.
