Let me tell a tale about handstand, a pose Ive grappled with for years. Ive always been afraid of falling out of it, but determined to master the pose. I was taking this one Rocket Yoga class, and I was trying over and over again to get up into the pose, not taking any breaks in between.
The instructor came over to assist me. He placed one hand on my back and could immediately tell I was holding my breath. I remember him saying, Whoa, whoa, whoa. Breathe! I was holding my breath so tightly. All of my focus was on my fear of falling and my determination to get up into handstand.
It happened because I was too focused on nailing this challenging pose. Instead, I learned to turn my focus away from the pose I wanted to conquer, and towards my breathing. Every time the mind drifts, bring it back to your breath. When your attention is on your breath, your body will naturally follow the rhythm thats right for you. Control your breath, and it should guide you into each pose.

Create a calorie deficit to lose weight. That means you have to eat fewer calories than your body burns.
Healthy nutrition is critical if your goal is to shed those nasty pounds. You can do intensive yoga for two hours every day but still gain weight in case your diet isn’t in check.

How Much Yoga Is Enough
Most yoga classes are an hour and a half. Some are an hour and fifteen. You can take a lunch time class for an hour. I remember a studio I used to go to years ago where classes were an hour and forty-five minutes.
There are yoga retreats where youll do 5 or 6 hours of yoga a day. Or teacher trainings where youll do eight hours of yoga a day.

Working out everyday is a very important factor in developing your health. When I say work out everyday I dont mean you need to have an intense session everyday. Investing as little as 10 minutes a day with enough volume over a long period of time will go a long way.
The benefits of doing yoga everyday are:

The goal is to be able to stimulate your body everyday so it is nice and warmed up and prepared for whatever it is you need to accomplish.
Incorporating yoga everyday will be beneficial to your health because it will allow you to develop the necessary habit to keep your health in check.
You begin to see many areas of your life also starting to come in place because you feel more centered.
Can You Get Injured By Doing Yoga Too Much Or Too Little

The Outlier On The Mat
I went to my first class a few years ago at a studio in my neighborhood. Ive been to a couple of different locations since then, but its been a bumpy road.
At times, it can feel embarrassing to be the only larger-bodied person in the room. Everyone struggles with certain postures now and then, but the experience is a lot more charged when everyone assumes youre struggling because youre fat.
After class one day, I chatted with the instructor about my body not reaching very far in certain poses. In a soothing, gentle voice, she said, Well, maybe its a wakeup call.
She didnt know anything about my health, habits, or life. She assumed purely on my body shape that I needed a wakeup call.
Yoga fatphobia isnt always as blatant as that.
Sometimes larger-bodied people like myself are prodded and poked a bit more than everyone else, or encouraged to force our bodies into postures that dont feel right. Sometimes were completely ignored, as if were a lost cause.
Some of the equipment, like the adjustable bands, were too small for me, even at their max. Sometimes I had to do a different pose entirely, or was told to go into Childs Pose and wait for everybody else.
My former instructors wakeup call comment made me think my body was the problem. If I lost weight, I thought, Id be able to do the poses better.
Even though I was committed to practicing, going to yoga class made me feel anxious and unwelcome as time went on.
Too Much Of Something Is Bad Enough
If you are familiar with the Spice Girls , then you have probably heard that line. Dont worry, I wont tell anyone that you just shook your head yes to knowing the lyric. It might sound counterintuitive, but yes, too much yoga has the potential to bring injury to your body.
Its no secret that overeating can give you medical problems like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. And though it is less likely that you get these medical problems from overdoing yoga, you must still be aware that the effects of too much yoga do exist, and that there is a happy medium for everyone out there. The question remains: How much is too much yoga?. The answer is simple and your body will tell you, loud and clear. People have different tolerances when it comes to discomfort, which goes without saying. That said, the line between discomfort and pain often gets blurred by our desire to push to the next level, even if our body isnt ready for it. Discomfort and pain both have simple solutions. Discomfort: breath and be present in the pose. Pain: stop immediately.
Admittedly, the health benefits of yoga may have an addictive quality to them, but pushing yourself to do more than what your body can take for a day just so you can get quick results can do more harm than good. Aside from that, it also violates ahimsa, the yoga philosophy that means the practice of non-violence and to not cause harm to self or others. Sorry, had to throw in some yoga woo-woo.

How Many Times A Week Should I Do Yoga
The answer to how often you should do yoga is dependent upon many different factors, including how much time you have, your ability to commit financially, your personal goals, your;fitness level, and your experience with yoga.
