Schedule In Your Yoga Or Meditation

How to Make Steady Progress in Yoga and Spiritual Practices? (Secret of Concentration!)

Busy schedule? Try to set aside a little block of time each day where you can get in the zone, and begin to establish your routine. “Find a time of day you can set for yourself with minimal distraction,” suggests Tova Sklar, the yoga expert for Gaiam. “Set a timer and either shut your phone off or silent it, wait until you can be alone for a few moments, and use that time wisely.”

What You Will Learn:

  • Which joints of the body are more susceptible to repititive strain injury, and how can you protect them?

  • Which is the best way to practice to make the fastest progress, while also preventing overuse or repetitive strain injuries?

  • Which postures have the most misalignment issues, because of common strength and flexibility limitations in students, and how can you ensure correct alignment?

  • Which chronic conditions may put students at greater risk for injury, and which asanas are still safe for students with these conditions?

  • The benefits and safety of inversions, how to introduce these to students in a safe way, as well as inversions contraindicated for at-risk populations, such as people with osteoporosis;

  • How to safely practice yoga postures that will stress the joints for some people, including Lotus pose, and Chaturanga Dandasana;

  • How to introduce appropriate preparations and variations of challenging poses to keep yourself and your students progressing safely in your practice.

The Two Wings Of Practice

Students often ask me how long it is going to take them to be able to achieve a certain pose or goal they have set for themselves.; The short answer comes from Patthabi Jois and goes like this: Practice, practice and all is coming.

There is the literal interpretation of this aphorism that most yoga students want to believe and that is to keep practicing and you will achieve your goal.

However, Patthabi Jois does not say to keep practicing and your results are guaranteed.; By telling us to keep practicing he lets us know that wisdom can be accrued and through wisdom, discrimination.; The teachings of the Bhagavad Gita tell us to practice for the sake of practice but not be attached to the fruits of our practice.; It also warns us to not be attached to inaction.; This means that you are not guaranteed that if you practice a pose repeatedly that you will be able to achieve it.; It also means that if you dont practice regularly, progress will be elusive.

How do you practice?; One way is to come to public yoga classes.; These are great, but you are at the whim of practicing whatever the teacher wants you to practice, not what you as an individual might need.; Also, sometimes teachers avoid certain poses for a variety of reasons.; Those poses might be beneficial for you.

Keep Your Yoga Mat Rolled Out

Permanently.

Sounds too easy?

Well, you might be surprised, but structuring your environment in a way you want to act can determine your future behavior. Make it easy for yourself to do the things you want. Make it hard for yourself to do the things you’d rather avoid.

Planning to do yoga in the morning? Unroll your mat right beside your bed and prepare the yoga gear and clothes in the evening.

Want to do yoga after work? Unplug the TV set and switch off WiFi once you leave the house, but leave your yoga mat unrolled and your gear ready. When you get back home, it will be easier to get on the mat right away than putting extra effort to set up the TV and the Internet.

Getting your own yoga mat is an investment you won’t regret. Check out this guide on how to choose a yoga mat and what qualities to look for in a good piece of yoga gear.

Overcoming The Waves Of Excitement And Boredom

Tight hamstrings? How to make progress in your forward ...

You no longer feel intimidated in the front of the room, you can flow with less effort, and your yoga hour are truly the happiest part of the day.

You realize that this yoga stuff works, and amidst discovering the amazing strength and flexibility you now believe you can cultivate, you find yourself actually looking forward to the next “AHA!” moment of self-discovery.

But then, as these moments happen less frequently, your focus wavers and you may wonder, What is up with all this repetition? Feelings of boredom arise and a desire to seek purpose or “truth” may take hold.

While the longing to know will motivate you to continue, searching too hard with rigid intent can lead to less answers and greater frustration.

Keep in mind that childlike innocence, full trust, curiousity, and openness will get you closer to contentment than actually coming to any conclusion. Observe life as it flows, and monitor those flames of ambition, because while a little heat can soothe, too much of a fire will burn.

How Blogging Creates Leads

I began blogging in 2014 talking about my travels around the world. From here I moved the blogs on to the Yummy Yoga Girl website. I blog once a month and with time I am starting to see great results.

Yoganect approached me last Summer, to be one of there supporters and blog contributors on their online global community. Most recently I have guest blogged for Form yoga mats. And in April this year, I received a request in my inbox from Siddhi Yoga School in Malaysia, offering me a guest blog, which I have turned into a series of six blog posts. My initial desire to reach a global audience has come true.

I love writing and have continued to use this passion in approaching publications.

This year Om Yoga Magazine published my story and I was on the front cover! In the article, I speak honestly about how yoga helped me through my recovery from bulimia. This is a wonderful achievement as I hope it may inspire others who suffer from body conscious issues to use yoga to bring balance and perspective into their lives.

The success of all the publications so far including being Oms May front cover came from an introduction email to the right person, some advertising within the magazine and simply asking for collaboration opportunities. I believe I have something to offer which is valuable and in return, my message is being honoured and shared to the world.

What Does Progression In Yoga Asana Practice Really Mean

I made sure to use the words, asana practice;because yoga is a 24/7 practice;of awareness, consciousness, and unconditional love. It should be;taken off the mat, and into our every action and thought. When we practice yoga postures, were actually using the physical body to understand what is going on internally on a spiritual level.;

Progression in practice doesnt have to do with how deep you can get into postures, if you can stick your leg behind your head, or how long you can hold a handstand. ;It is inevitable that if you practice long enough and challenge yourself, that stuff will come, but think of it more like a side effect of consistent practice.;

The commitment to a consistent yoga practice will create humility, compassion, patience, and a sense of stillness in the mind that grows over a long period of time. It grows slowly, which is something that is hard for people to understand or accept. When you can accept the irony that yoga is not about postures at all, then the frustration due to the physical abilities will start to fall away.;

It is ;important to push the limits and challenge yourself in yoga practice, but that does not mean creating pain or hurting yourself. It also does not mean pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion. It is a balance of firm yet relaxed, which is stated in yoga sutra 2.46.;

2.46 Sthira Sukham Asanam: ;The posture for Yoga meditation should be steady, stable, and motionless, as well as comfortable

Depending on the day.

When you talk about making progress in Yoga, what do you mean? Whether it’s gaining more flexibility or being able to do advanced postures? It’s none of that. Progress in Yoga means how well you can need the resistance that arises in your practice both physically and mentally.

Progress will mean how you can learn how to take a deep breath and make space to observe and feel what is happening in the body and mind. Doing that since very easy but in practice it can be very difficult for many people because this is not how we operate on a day-to-day basis. This is something that we need to know and apply when we have so many distractions in this world which are vying for our attention all the time.

Keys To Spiritual Progress: A Checklist

If you feel you are not making spiritual progress, the first thing to do is to take stock of yourself and find out what is standing in your way. Most people fail to attain their spiritual goals because of lack of sustained effort. Do you ask yourself at the end of each day whether you have progressed more than you did the day before? Self-analysis is the greatest method of progress. Keep a mental diary, and each day check your progress in developing the following qualities. This simple self-discipline will help you develop spiritually.

What Kind Of Gear Do You Need

Progress!

It’s not necessary to buy anything to start a yoga practice. “Early yogis practiced on kusha grass and in nature,” Barkataki says. “You don’t need certain props, clothes, mats, or a certain body type to practice yoga,” she adds. “These are misunderstandings that can be a distraction from yoga’s true aims.”

While you can practice in the grass or on a carpet, a quality yoga mat is a good investment if you’re practicing on a hard surface, plus it’s required at many studios.

Harding says that two cork yoga blocks, like these from Manduka, can be helpful to find more stability and proper alignment. But if you don’t have blocks, no worries, you can always use books as a stand-in.;

What Are Some Of The Benefits Of Yoga

The power of yoga in the West isn’t totally diminished, though. In fact, yogis keep coming back to their mats because of the practice’s many benefits. Studies show that yoga can improve physical health by lowering blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease, and aiding digestion. It may also help practitioners sleep better and manage stress.;Not to mention, recent research indicates the mind-body practice supports mental health, specifically; one study found regular yoga may help ease depressive symptoms.

Dianne Bondy, yoga teacher and author of Yoga for Everyone: 50 Poses for Every Type of Body, has seen yoga’s positive impact firsthand. Thanks to the practice, her students are able to excel under pressure. Yoga teaches that “when there’s chaos going on around us, we can focus on something singular and bring a sense of peace to ourselves,” Bondy says. “The practice of concentration helps students to be more successful at whatever they do.”;

Get Set Up With Good Gear

If you have the funds, investing in decent yoga equipment or essential oils to set the mood can be key when jump-starting a new routine. Sklar explains that, “A great way to make yoga or meditation easier is to use props and a sturdy mat. During yoga, use a non-slip mat to keep you in place and a yoga block to help your body stabilize in tougher positions.”

Keys To Spiritual Progress: A Checklist Paramahansa Yogananda

How to make progress in meditation

by Paramahansa Yogananda: If you feel you are not making spiritual progress, the first thing to do is to take stock of yourself and your habits, and find out what is standing in your way.

Most people fail in attaining their spiritual goals because of inertia or lack of sustained effort. To grow spiritually, you must be able to do those things that are in your highest interest. Do you ask yourself at the end of each day whether you have progressed more than you did the day before? Self-analysis is the greatest method of progress. Keep a mental diary, and each day check your progress in developing the following qualities and attitudes, and refraining from those which retard your spiritual progress. This simple self-discipline will help you develop spiritually.

1. Self-ControlYou must learn to control your speech and behavior, especially when you are mistreated. Dont allow yourself to become a doormat, letting others trample on you, but never lose your unruffled calmness or attitude of forgiveness, especially when you are the target of criticism. Few people can control their outer behavior, and even fewer can control their inner balance during a bombardment of unkindness from others.

Always resist the impulse of acting under the influence of a spirit of revenge. It is easy to slap back with hurtful words when someone reviles you, but it takes great inner strength to refrain from doing so. Protect your inner peace and calmness by silently resisting all ill treatment.
