All Other Schools Not Approved By The Ya Are Worse
It would be a mistake to presume that all schools, not approved by the YA, are worse than those which are. However, with YA approval you can be sure that the school has had their curriculum AND their teachers verified.
Although not perfect, The Yoga Alliance is attempting to bring some consistency to the experience of learning and teaching Yoga. They are also trying their best to eradicate or, at least, help you avoid inadequate Yoga training.
While some will complain that Yoga should not be standardized others will see the value in creating a structure. This is especially true for 200-hour foundational training where the specifications set by The Yoga Alliance mean all students should come out with a basic, but well-balanced, overview of Yoga.
The Best Online Yoga Teacher Training Certifications Yoga Alliance 2021
So this is probably, like, the 45th article youve read about The Best Online Yoga Teacher Trainings. Youre probably pretty sick and tired of trying to figure out which yoga school to trust, and why different websites rate them the way they do. I get it.
While yoga has historically been and will continue to be a hands-on journey, trying times call for new explorations. The natural freedom of yoga lends itself to adaptability. This adaptability has been embraced in some of the best online yoga teacher training available and approved by the Yoga Alliance.
A lot of advice out there tries to deconstruct online yoga teacher trainings into these nice little lists, as if you can just find the right yoga school by clicking on an affiliate link like youre going grocery shopping in the todays special aisle. And sure, you probably should google the top and the best and all that, as we will see, but to me, all of these affiliate lists seem like slapping a couple of sun salutations in the middle of a savasana. Technically, they dont really hurt to read, but by themselves, they dont actually answer the question. Which are the best yoga teacher training certifications out there right now? Luckily, Yoga Alliance holds the answer to that question.

Yoga Alliance Review by: Patrick van der Pol Feb 02, 2021
I really love the overall atmosphere that has been created by everyone involved in this teacher training. I have learned a lot and will continue to learn from al the material provided by Akasha. The experience was amazing even in the situation that we are in right now. I am sure to visit when we can fly to Bali again.
Get Some Practice Teaching Yoga
Step number four is, you want to practice so teach. I think a lot of people think theyre gonna do their 200-hour certification and feel really confident right off the bat.
The reality is it takes years to build up that confidence, to have a presence in your teaching, to really have a strong voice.
So you wanna start practice teaching everyone you can.
Teach your mom, your dog, anyone wholl listen to you. Offer free yoga classes and practice yoga both on and off the yoga mat.
Just start logging those teaching hours, because, just like anything in life, the more you do it, the better youre gonna get.
While you certainly learn to teach in training courses, it doesnt mean that youre necessarily ready to do so. Just like knowing the yoga asanas doesnt mean that you can stick them, knowing teaching methodology doesnt mean that youre ready.
So get as much experience as you can!

What Yoga Alliance Is Not
As far as we know, the Yoga Alliance does not send undercover agents, disguised as Yoga students, to check out the quality of training. Even if they did, they could never check them all. Or maybe they do, and they do an excellent job of going unnoticed
The Yoga Alliance works on an honor-based system. Therefore they cannot guarantee that the curriculum submitted by a school will be the exact curriculum that is taught. However, you have to wonder, would a school go to the lengths of creating a curriculum, submitting it, and not bothering to teach it?
Ultimately, The Registered Yoga School title is based on the number of hours spent teaching specified topics. It cannot guarantee the quality of exactly what is taught in class.
Disclaimer: In February 2022 the YA will implement their Elevated RYS Standards which involve moving toward a competency-based, rather than the current, strictly hours-based, system. Other changes will also be introduced.

Choose A Teacher Training Program
Number three, you definitely wanna do some kind of training.
Yes, you want to do a yoga teacher training, and the most common format is to do whats called a 200-hour teacher training.
So you cover a lot of material in 200 hours, everything from teaching, anatomy, philosophy. You wanna do research on where you do this 200-hour training, because its really gonna teach you everything you need to know about how to be a successful teacher.
While most yoga studios will focus on vinyasa yoga or vinyasa flow in their certification program, you can totally choose a yoga instructor training that focuses on the yoga and meditation style that most interests you. There are many types of yoga, from restorative yoga, prenatal yoga, yoga nidra, Ashtanga yoga, to yin yoga, you definitely have a lot to choose from.
You can do a 200-hour training all at once, in a month-long in-person intensive, over the course of many weekends, or you can even do a 200-hour training online. There are a lot of different types of training depending on the style of yoga, like:
If you do do something online, make sure that its interactive, and youre getting direct feedback and support from a teacher over video conference.
Thats exactly how my online training works, and if youre interested in the online option, Ill also link that up in the cards and description.
