How To Become A Certified Through Meditation Teacher Training
These are the general steps involved in becoming a meditation teacher:
Well, if youve made it this far youve probably already started. Congratulations!
The first step is learning to meditate yourself. Not just learning to sit and chant a mantra, but a real practice. Meditate every day.
Add it to your schedule so you notice if you forget. Maybe it works best for you to meditate every morning, maybe its better to meditate right before bed. Do what makes sense for you.
Learn more about meditation. Talk to people, consult your teachers, do research. I also recommend taking some kind of certification course.
Any of the courses I list above are good options, but maybe you would prefer an in-person course or have some other connection to a practice I didnt list.
Acquire a space. This might be a room in your home, a rented office, or maybe even a room at a local gym, church, or temple. Keep in mind how many people you want to accommodate at a time.
You might need a small office for one on one clients and a larger studio space for larger lessons and guided meditations.
Day 6 Course Closure & Cultural Activities
- Course evaluation: round up of acquired competences, feedback, and discussion
- Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance
- Excursion and other external cultural activities.
Please note:
The schedule describes likely activities but may differ significantly based on the trainer delivering the specific session and the requests of the participants.
If you would like to discuss a specific topic, please indicate it at least 4 weeks in advance. Course modifications are subject to the trainers discretion.
The number and schedule of the cultural activities depend on the location, not the course further information is available on each location webpage. The trainer will send you the definitive course schedule approximately two weeks before the course.
Is Online Yoga Teacher Training Worth It
This totally depends on the training courses that youre looking at and who the lead trainers are. Some yoga companies are just churning out training courses without offering much hands-on experience, personalized guidance from the trainers, or even quality education. These kinds of training courses are often sold for less than $500 and are more for those interested in a quick and dirty pseudo yoga teacher certificate than for those who are genuinely interested in learning the history of yoga, proper asana technique, teaching methodology from an experienced yoga instructor, or pranayama breathing techniques.
My online teacher training program, for example, provides TONS of hands-on experience through live Zoom calls and opportunities for teaching experience. I offer quality pre-recorded lessons on human anatomy, pranayama breathing, teaching methodology, and alignment and THEN we come together to discuss it all. In an online program like mine, you get teaching experience and quality feedback from an experienced yoga instructor , which is quite uncommon for most online programs.

The problem is that there are a myriad of options out there, so its important that you know exactly what your intentions are before investing in any meditation training. Many online meditation teacher trainings sound similar but teach completely different material.

Setting Your Income Goals
You should go at your own pace when setting your income goals. Consider whether youre looking for a fun job as a freelancer, or whether your dreams include owning a yoga studio, building an online yoga universe so you can teach from anywhere, or partnering with wellness and lifestyle brands to sell products through your media presence.
Most yogis go into teaching for the love of yoga, of course! This doesnt mean you need to spend your life in poverty, with the mindset that this is a service to others. Make sure that you earn your worth. Not only do you deserve the abundance, but you will better serve others if you have addressed your own needs! If youre entrepreneurial, lean into offering workshops and retreats. If you want a steady income, I always recommend teaching online, or focusing on freelance studio teaching, corporate yoga, and private clients.
How Long Does It Take To Get Yoga Certified
This depends on the level of training that you get, including continuing education courses. It also depends on where you complete your training. A standard 200-hour immersion course will be about a month long, whereas your local yoga studio likely offers courses over weekends over the course of 6 months.

Definition In Classic Indian Texts
The term Yoga has been defined in various ways in the many different Indian philosophical and religious traditions.
Yogabija, a Hatha yoga work | 14th century CE | “The union of apana and prana, one’s own rajas and semen, the sun and moon, the individual Self and the supreme Self, and in the same way the union of all dualities, is called yoga. ” |
Responsibilities Of Being A Yoga Instructor
The primary responsibility of the yoga teacher is to create a safe, supportive environment so the students can practice without fear or discomfort and remain engaged. The poses, which are called asanas, should be clearly communicated with verbal instruction and physical demonstration where appropriate.
Apart from that, a yoga instructor will have other duties, such as developing and adapting the class content based on the students skill level.
A yoga teacher will also have to possess solid time management, be comfortable taking the lead, and be continuously evolving their own knowledge and understanding.
Additionally, it’s important to remember that you will be one among several passionate yoga instructors. So keep in mind that you’re responsible for advertising yourself, your brand, and your classes.
A tip would be to ask yourself the following questions: Are you fully committed to your practice? What makes your classes special and sets you apart from the others?

What Training Format Will Enable You Learn And Implement
No one enjoys spending money on something you dont end up using.
Unfortunately, this is more common than not when it comes to professional trainings, and especially common when it comes to meditation trainings.
Online meditation trainings often are too hard to vet & dont provide enough opportunity to ask the many questions that indubitably will arise over the course of your training.
In person trainings often dont have enough time to cover the amount of material necessary to produce confident & competent guided meditation facilitators, and leave you with no one to ask questions after the training is complete.
The best option is likely somewhere in the middle
A hybrid online guided meditation training course, with an in-person certification for those who graduate, and a vibrant online community of facilitators.
The online format allows the adequate amount of time and information to be divulged, and more easily enables the student to fit the training into their busy schedule, while the online community creates a space for the student to practice, hone their skills & ask questions directly to the instructor.
Essentially, you will want to find a course that doesnt just leave you after teaching the HOW TO, but sticks with you during and after you implement guided meditation into your work to answer the questions surrounding WHAT TO DO WHEN.
I hope this article helped clarify the gray area surrounding the budding, but vitally important, field of guided meditation training.
What Do Yoga Instructors Make

If your goal is to teach at a yoga studio, then you can expect to earn anywhere from $20 to $80 per yoga class, depending on your teaching experience and the yoga studio. If you want to teach private yoga classes, then you could earn anywhere from $50 to $150 per yoga class. If youre teaching online, then the sky is the limit.

Time: 1 Month Intensive To 12 Months +
With trainings running from a 1 intensive month to 12 months+, you can find a teacher training course to suit your schedule, availability and budget. A 1 month intensive, is just that, intense, whilst most probably living at your yoga school. Youll be learning and practicing at least 6 days a week, living the yogic lifestyle and taking time away from home and everyday life. Its kind of like a month long holiday bootcamp with LOTS of yoga!
A 12 month+ course, in contrast, will be spread over weekdays or weekends, maybe with a blend of online learning, practicing at your local yoga studio, and short, immersive weekends. This type of course is perfect for people who cant take a month off work or home responsibilities. I recommend choosing a Yoga Alliance-certified course, so you can take advantage of the Yoga Alliance membership benefits down the road.
What You Need To Start Teaching Meditation
You are going to need to have all the most important tools.
The exact tools may vary depending on the type of practice youre teaching. If youre giving guided visualisations, for instance, you are going to need a way of playing music. Yes, your iPhone and speakers will do the trick, but does that look professional? Probably not. And you might also need some amazing music.
If youre going to be teaching Osho or Zen, you will need mats for both yourself and your students to use. Not only is it more comfortable, but should a student get injured, and you need your insurance company to cover the legal fees, the insurer is going to want to know that you had everything set up properly. Lets be honest, insurers will do anything in their power to avoid paying out dont give them an excuse not to honour their agreement.
Regardless of which techniques you teach, you will definitely want a cushion. Some of your students will want to sit down from time to time .
Other materials that you may need include a mala , Tibetan singing bowls, Buddha statues and so on. You might not end up actually using these materials in your lesson, but simply having them there for the student to see provides the right sort of image. It helps to validate your business in the eyes of your clients.
Also, make sure you have proper lighting. Meditative exercises should always be practised in proper lighting. Too much light can create headaches and distract the mind. Too dim lighting could cause fatigue.

Number three, you definitely wanna do some kind of training.
Yes, you want to do a yoga teacher training, and the most common format is to do whats called a 200-hour teacher training.
So you cover a lot of material in 200 hours, everything from teaching, anatomy, philosophy. You wanna do research on where you do this 200-hour training, because its really gonna teach you everything you need to know about how to be a successful teacher.
While most yoga studios will focus on vinyasa yoga or vinyasa flow in their certification program, you can totally choose a yoga instructor training that focuses on the yoga and meditation style that most interests you. There are many types of yoga, from restorative yoga, prenatal yoga, yoga nidra, Ashtanga yoga, to yin yoga, you definitely have a lot to choose from.
You can do a 200-hour training all at once, in a month-long in-person intensive, over the course of many weekends, or you can even do a 200-hour training online. There are a lot of different types of training depending on the style of yoga, like:
If you do do something online, make sure that its interactive, and youre getting direct feedback and support from a teacher over video conference.
Thats exactly how my online training works, and if youre interested in the online option, Ill also link that up in the cards and description.
