Youll need to know the physiological differences of the pregnant body, as well as how these can change between no-risk and high-risk pregnancies.

TECHNIQUES, TRAINING, AND PRACTICE

Youll look at teaching methods that are specific to trimesters as well as individual needs. There will also be a lot of time spent on correcting alignment during prenatal yoga, guiding your students through appropriate techniques, and adding elements of relaxation and stress management into your classes.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Ive been teaching yoga since 2005 and soon started to specialise in womens health, pregnancy and postnatal yoga. My passion led me to co-create, teach and be the course leader on a Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training Course in London for several years.

I am delighted to update and give birth to this new Prenatal Course certified by Yoga Professionals UK.

Teaching is a never-ending journey of research, training and practice. I am continuing my professional education being an Ayurvedic Practitioner which inform my yoga teaching and my approach to pregnancy yoga, specific pregnancy and postnatal trainings with Shiva Rea, Uma Dinsmore Tuli, Birthright and Claire Missingham. Completed various courses including a doula training with Michel Odent and Female Pelvic Floor Training for Birth and Wellness Practitioners.

How Do You Become A Certified Yoga Instructor

This depends on what kind of instructor certification you would like to receive. If youre looking for yoga instructor certification from Yoga Alliance, then you will want to do your yoga teacher training program with a registered yoga school or the Yoga Alliance. It is not necessary to get your instructor certification from YA, though, as its just a private organization that is not connected to any government requirements to teach yoga.

Otherwise, look for a yoga school that has a long-standing good reputation and join their 200-hour yoga teacher training program. This will cover all of the basic knowledge of yoga, such as yoga philosophy, the history of yoga, the Yoga Sutras, teaching methodology, human anatomy and physiology, and the yoga postures.

What Our Students Are Saying

I absolutely adored Clare from the moment I met her. She has a powerful, loving energy and is passionate about educating and empowering women through such a vital time in their lives. I was lucky enough to complete my 85 hour YTT while I was pregnant and without a doubt Clare not only prepared me to teach pre and postnatal yoga, she prepared me to be in my pregnant body and to birth in a way that I felt more knowledgeable, empowered and informed about.

The education I received from this course was second to none in fact, when I did my birthing classes I could not believe how much I already knew purely from the education I had received over 3 weekends in Mamata Yoga training. And then having Clare share herself and her heart each and every day in our classes made her teachings so much more relevant and real which was just icing on the cake.

I went to this training to further my own education and connect more deeply into my own practice but I left the training as a truly passionate advocate for womens health, choices, and unique journeys through what is most-likely the most significant life-changing time they will ever experience. I honestly couldnt be more grateful for this training, for Clare and for the lifelong education I have received from Mamata Yoga.

So much love for this journey, and so much gratitude for this training.

  • As a prenatal chiropractor, I have worked closely with Elise and many of her prenatal yoga students in the past 2 years. I consistently find that the women under my care that are also attending regular prenatal yoga classes with Elise experience less discomfort in their pregnancy, report stronger emotional connections to their bodies, and they consistently state they feel better prepared for labor and delivery. If you are looking for a way to safely exercise but also want a beautiful way to connect with your body prior to delivery seek out classes with Sweet Momma Yoga. Lastly, Elise goes above and beyond to create a sense of community for her students. She has created a thriving group of moms that support one another outside of the classes and virtually. – Kelsi McClure, DC, Lone Tree CO

  • Ive participated in Sweet Momma Yoga during both of my pregnancies and have benefited each time. Even on days when I feel tired and just wanted to put my feet up, I always felt better after class knowing that I am taking the best care of myself and my baby. Elise does an amazing job of making all of the moms feel welcome and comfortable no matter what previous yoga experience theyve had. I got more out of Sweet Momma Yoga than I ever expected, benefiting both my pregnancy and birthing experiences. I would recommend to any expecting momma! – Deidre L., Livonia MI

Keep Track Of Everything

There are lots of moving parts to this Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training. To help you stay grounded and on track, we made a Check List. We advise that you use this as a guideline so you never feel overwhelmed and always trust that youre receiving the best possible teacher training available.

And at any point, please feel free to email Deb if you have any questions that need attention before or between the long weekend intensives.

Yoga Is Not Just For The Experts

Number one, being a yoga teacher is not about being able to do all the fancy, complicated poses, like headstand, or forearm stand, or some of the arm balances.

What its actually about is cuing, which means effectively using your voice to tell people what to do with their bodies, and compassion.

So cuing and compassion.

So dont get down on yourself if you cant do all the super fancy things, because really good teachers are about great cuing and being extremely compassionate and loving with their students.

After all, yoga is a form of healing arts.

This doesnt always come naturally to everyone and thats okay. You can develop it with hands-on experience and will likely learn it in your teacher training education.

I especially found learning her mindfulness and awareness based approach very valuable. This course is very thorough and addressed the various aspects of pregnancy: physiological, anatomical, psychological and spiritual. I highly recommend this course!”

The Sacred Birth program is truly special. The ability to integrate doula skills with prenatal yoga teaching skills is so powerful. Stefanie and Julia are both amazing, empathetic teachers and their passion for the work shines through in the way they teach. Even in an online format, they facilitated real connection and true community. They also bring in a variety of guest speakers to share their expertise – from breastfeeding to pelvic floor PT to midwifery and more. I’m so happy I was able to take this course!

Allison, Los Angeles

Julia really cared about our personal growth as teachers. The environment that she created gave a feeling of community and intimacy that created a perfect foundation for our exploration of prenatal yoga. With years of experience as a yogi, yoga teacher, doula and prenatal teacher, Julia brings lots of knowledge and authentic care for each participant. She draws upon her real-life experience. I have learned more than I ever expected and feel so grateful for that.
