Of course, the amount you need to practice also depends on your goals:
- If you want to gain many of the benefits of yoga including improved strength, concentration and flexibility ;2-3 half hour sessions each;week is a good place to start. This isnt too much that youll overstretch your muscles, but is regular enough to provide consistent improvement.;Ideally, youll do some practice on a daily basis but this may not be possible if you have a hectic schedule. - To improve your sleep, a short session of around 10 minutes before bed can help.
- For improving flexibility, one hour-long class per week may be enough to gain some of the benefits. Youll see much faster progress if you practice more though.

How long should you hold a yoga pose for? There is no set amount of time you need to hold a yoga pose. However, yoga poses are typically; held anywhere from 1 -2 breaths to upwards of 5 minutes depending on the type and focus of the yoga practice.;
There are many different ways to practice yoga. It all depends on what works for you and because we are human, this can vary day to day. Some days you may want to have a quick yoga practice where you only hold a pose for a single breath and other days you may want to sit in one pose for 5 minutes; for a more restorative yoga flow.;

Regular yoga practice promotes muscle flexibility. As such, it’s an increasingly popular activity among competitive athletes looking to up their game and prevent injuries.
A study published in the International Journal of Yoga looked at male college athletes, measuring differences in performance between those who practiced biweekly yoga sessions and those in a non-yoga group. The results determined that a regular yoga practice may improve flexibility and balance, characteristics that may contribute to enhanced athletic performance.

Whether you are striving to master more advanced poses or just starting out in your practice, my best advice would be: do as much yoga as you need to fill your heart. Everybody has a different requirement. I know people who are very happy practicing yoga for 3 minutes a day. That wouldnt really work for me, but I dont chastise them for that.
Some people are born yogis, others take an entire lifetime to get there. It can take years to master even a single pose. When we try to put the body in positions it isnt ready for, it sets us up for injury. Its not like we cant work toward poses that are challenging But its;always a journey: we start a pose, work on it for several years, and finally get it dialed in. You can be a master yogi and never master a pose, or you can master several poses and never be a master yogi. To me, a yoga master has achieved equanimity in life. The most profound gurus will tell you they are still struggling and if they dont, be careful. Its those who say theyve achieved enlightenment that Im wary of.

What Are The Benefits Of Yoga
If you want to gain the benefits of yoga, you need to make practising a habit. And its much easier to develop a habit when you have;a clear reason for creating it.
The good news is that yoga has plenty of benefits so this isnt difficult!

I’ve been training to build muscles for over 10 years now but whenever I had a break of more than 3-4 weeks I always take it easy the first week or two that I’m back in training. Whenever I ignored this rule of mine, I ended up having to pause for another couple of weeks because I overstretched or even sprained a ligament.
A good way to start your yoga practice in a gentle and gradual way is to do some warm-up workouts at home. If you go to the gym or your ashram to start or re-start your workout, tell your instructor that you want to take it easy today. From there, you can work your way up to a more consistent practice at a higher level of difficulty with less problems. This will vary from person to person, but as mentioned, consistency in yoga is key to seeing actual progress.
Remember that your efforts are directly proportional to the results. I’m not telling you to do yoga as often as possible, but to know how often and WHY you are doing it. Set realistic goals, be consistent, manage your enthusiasm and don’t surpass your limits.

I often get asked by people who are new to yoga, how many times a week do I need to do yoga to get the benefits?
Its an interesting question, and the answer, as with most yoga-related questions, is that it depends on you.
If I think back to when I started, I remember attending my first couple of classes more out of duty than because I actually wanted to be there.
I wanted the benefits that Id read about and had grand visions of becoming leaner, more toned, and in tune with myself, but I had no idea how I was going to survive a whole hour of quiet and deep breathing.
Within a couple of weeks, I was hooked!
I could feel the tension melting off me as I walked into the yoga studio, and I was sleeping like a baby on the nights after I attended a class.
I was sitting up straighter, experiencing less back pain, I felt calmer, and my brain seemed to be much sharper than before.
Within a month, I was doing two yoga classes a week, and after two months, I was up to three classes, alternating between Hatha, Bikram, Vinyasa, and restorative yoga.
So, if youre a beginner, you can easily start off as I did with one session a week, and, as you begin doing yoga more regularly, theres a good chance youll be hooked too and wont be able to wait a full week to get your next yoga fix.
