How Long Does It Take To Learn Kriya
This process takes about a year, but this also depends on each individual. It is natural to think of any training we receive in terms of outer goals, yet with the Path of Kriya, much more is involved. The Path of Kriya Yoga involves learning and practicing spiritual techniques that promote inner transformation. Each of these techniques needs to be integrated into ones life before moving forward. How quickly one can move forward with the material depends on personal karma and inner realities. The instructors work with each individual, according to their needs and realities.

Kriya Yoga In The Bhagavad Gita
While the Bhagavad Gita does not mention Kriya by name, Yogananda claimed that the practice was described as part of the yoga Krishna taught Arjuna.
Krishna states that by Offering inhaling breath into the outgoing breath, and offering the outgoing breath into the inhaling breath, the yogi neutralizes both these breaths; he thus releases the life force from the heart and brings it under his control.

History Of Kriya Yoga
Kriya Yoga is an ancient meditation technique of pranayama, also known as breathing control practice, Kriya Yoga was unknown to humankind for several centuries before it was taught in 1861 by the highly revered yogi, Mahavatar Babaji, to his beloved disciple Lahiri Mahasaya.;
It is mentioned in the records which document Babajis conversation with Lahiri. He states that the use of Kriya enabled Jesus, Kabir, and other prophets to materialize and dematerialize their body as they pleased.;
He further added that the gift of Kriya is to be passed on to the world in the 19th century. It is only a revival of the same science that Krishna bestowed Arjuna with. Later, it came to be known by sages like Patanjali, St John, St Paul, and even Christ.;
In fact, Kriya yoga has been mentioned in Bhagavad Gita twice by Lord Krishna, the greatest prophet of India. Lord Krishna mentions that it is only by securing an additional supply of life force, a yogi can control the decay of his body.;
Withdrawing from external factors via meditation and by neutralizing the life energy and flow within his nostrils and lungs has several benefits. In this way, a sage can not only control his mind and intellect but also reject fear, anger, and desire.;
It was only then that Lahiri preached the discipline to Sri Yukteswar. After years of practice and dedication, Sri Yukteshwar passed on the learnings to many of his disciples. These disciples also included the imminent Paramhansa Yogananda.;

Things To Take Into Account When Finding A Kriya Yoga Teacher
When the disciple is ready, the Master appears is what yogic texts believe in when it comes to finding a Guru.;
They talk about how a guru finds the right disciple rather than the other way round.;

Yogi and mystic, Sadhguru, looks at what kriya yoga means, and what it takes to walk this path and explore the very mechanics of the life process.
Sadhguru: Fundamentally, kriya means internal action. When you do inner action, it does not involve the body and the mind because both the body and the mind are still external to you. When you have a certain mastery to do action with your energy, then it is a kriya.
If you do external activity we call it karma. If you do internal activity we call it kriya. In a way, both are certain kind of karmas or both are certain kind of kriyas. But traditionally, or in the general sense of the term it is understood like this: karmas are those which bind you, kriyas are those which release you.
Whatever we do with your body, your attitudes and your thought, for example today your thoughts may go in one direction. Tomorrow if another person comes and influences you, they will go another way. Similarly, whatever we do with your body, your body is well today so it likes asanas. Tomorrow morning if your body is stiff, you will hate asanas. Your emotions are not at all reliable. At any moment they can shift from this to that. But your energies are different. Once we start working with the energy in a certain way, it has a different kind of depth to life. Suddenly, there is a different dimension to every aspect of your life because your energies have been touched and activated in a completely different way.
What Are The Differences Between Kriya And Kundalini
Getting confused between Kriya Yoga and Kundalini Yoga isnt uncommon at all, especially as Kundalini Yoga includes the use of Kriyas in its practice and Kriya Yoga helps to awaken kundalini energy.
As I mentioned previously, the word Kriya means action, and in Kundalini Yoga Kriyas refer to a set of techniques and exercises used to unblock energy channels in the body and control this energy.
The word Kundalini means coiled one in Sanskrit, which refers to the coiled life force which lays dormant at the bottom of our spine and can be awakened through certain yoga techniques.
Both Kriya and Kundalini are concerned with directly awakening and controlling this life energy in order to achieve spiritual awareness, however, while the two are very closely related, theyre not identical.
Practitioners of Kriya Yoga believe that the awakening of Kundalini energy needs to be done as a part of a wider spiritual path in order for it to be controlled safely, which is what makes it so effective.
Kundalini Yoga, on the other hand, is a physical and mental discipline that can be practised without any prior spiritual learning or special initiation .

What Is Kriya Yoga
Kriya Yoga is an ancient meditation technique of energy and breath control, or pranayama. It is part of a comprehensive spiritual path, which includes additional meditation practices along with right living.
The Kriya technique was hidden in secrecy for many centuries. It was revived in 1861, when the great yogi Mahavatar Babaji taught the technique to his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya. Lahiri then taught the technique to his disciple Sri Yukteswar, who taught it to his disciples, including Paramhansa Yogananda.
Yogananda then popularized Kriya Yoga through his book Autobiography of a Yogi and through his public teaching in the West. Kriya has been taught in an unbroken link of spiritual succession to this day.

How Long Does It Take To Prepare For Kriya
Before you are initiated into Kriya Yoga, there is a preparation process every yogi needs to take part in which takes around a year to complete. The better the preparation, the more effective Kriya Yoga will be.
One of the main reasons the preparation needs to be done is that its important for initiants to understand and practice Kriya Yoga in its totality as a spiritual path, rather than just as a meditation technique. The life energy which is awakened in the practice of Kriya is extremely powerful and the nervous system and consciousness need to be prepared to receive this energy. This way, the practice of Kriya will be safer and far more effective.
The preparation includes the study of Paramhansa Yoganandas teachings, lessons in the importance of the Guru-disciple relationship and meditation techniques including energization exercises, the HongSau technique of concentration and the Aum technique of meditation. Only once these techniques are mastered can the more advanced Kriya Yoga techniques be learnt.
While most effectively learnt in-person under the guidance of a master, initial Kriya Yoga preparation can also be done through online classes or through books at home.

Does Kriya Yoga Awaken Kundalini
Kriya yoga practices directly impact the energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine, which is known as kundalini. It cleanses the energy pathways, activates the energy centers or chakras, and enables energy movement from the base of the spine upwards. Through this process, Kriya yoga helps in awakening the kundalini.;
Kriya yoga facilitates this energy movement through its various practices that involve asana, pranayama, mudra, and mantra.
I Have Attended An Event/retreat And Practised What I Have Learnt So Far How Do I Learn The Advanced Kriya Techniques
Sri M answers this by sharing a story of Lahiri Mahasaya ji . This story involved two of Lahiri Mahasayas Kriya Yoga disciples. The first disciple was a humble postman, who practised sincerely. The second disciple was one who was convinced that his worth was not being evaluated.
One day, he decided to ask Lahiri Mahasaya why he was not giving him the advanced technique. Why is he still being made to practise the basics? He confronted Lahiri Mahasaya and demanded that he be taught the advanced technique! Mahasaya remained silent. The disciple waited eagerly for a reply.
After a few contemplative minutes, the postman walked in to hand over the mail. Mahasaya simply inquired, Tell me, havent you been practising the basics every day since a long time? Do you want the advanced technique now? The postmaster replied No sir, Im so satisfied with my first round of practise of the basics that I dare not ask for anything more. I dont think Ill be able to take it On hearing this Mahasaya looked at him keenly and said Good, you are genuinely ready for the advanced technique.
