Best For Fitness Variety: Alo Moves

6 Best YOGA Apps | Beginners

Cost: $20/month

Maybe you want a range of yoga classes but youre also up for some major core work, strength training, balance work, and other exercise options. Alo Moves has a wealth of fitness classes including structured programs, like a 21-day strength series, and skills classes to help you refine specific techniques like arm balances or specific yoga poses. You can progress though four levels of yoga as well, from beginner to advanced, and also pick your intensity and class duration.

Glo Yoga And Meditation

The Glo Yoga and Meditation app lets users pair music with their yoga poses and every exercise actually comes with a series of totally original tracks that lets users focus on the rhythms. Anyone with a cellphone can benefit from Glo. There are also four kinds of beginner-friendly classes, with various kinds of introductions to pilates and meditation.

The app is very easy to curate, as users can prioritize the programs based on their needs and schedules. Most instructors on the app are certified yoga teachers and users can actually make a library with the classes theyve already attended and then revisit them and the app also offers recommendations based on the users history.

Yoga Poses And Classes

The poses and classes app is perhaps the most accessible out of all of the yoga apps free download options on our list.

While all of the apps on this list are free to download, some of them do require in-app purchases to unlock more material. Poses and Classes does this too, but since its also supported by ads, theres a great deal of free material! In our opinion, there is more than enough content to keep you going indefinitely.

The app offers 100 poses which are incredibly well illustrated and easy to follow. The diagrams and instructions on this app are some of the clearest of the list, and a timer tells you when to transition into the next pose.

All the classes have been designed by certified yoga experts, so you know that youre only getting top-level tuition.

We think this might be the best free yoga app for anyone who wants to focus primarily on balance.

The main classes focus on strength, flexibility, and balance, but its the latter that gets the most attention.

The various poses will help you understand how your body works, and teach you to hold yourself in equilibrium which is, after all, the foundation of all yoga.

Of course, there are a variety of other targeted classes on offer. Our favourite was probably the Morning Yoga, which offers a short and invigorating burst of energy perfect for getting the day started.

Best For Breaking A Sweat: Asana Rebel

5 Best Free Yoga Apps For You in 2021

Why We Chose It: If getting a workout, turning up the heat, and losing weight is what you’re looking for in a yoga practice, Asana Rebel is a stellar pick.

What We Like

  • Provides a workout that reaches beyond yoga
  • Focuses on strengthening

What We Dont Like

  • Not much variety in offerings
  • Lack of navigation
  • Users have reported glitches

If youre looking for a chill practice that is primarily centered around meditation and mindfulness, then this isnt necessarily the app for you. Yes, there are slow, easy flows to choose from, but the bulk of the Asana Rebel app is meant to turn up the heat and help you with strengthening and weight loss.

Asana is the physical practice of yoga poses or simply the physical aspect. Though the program is centered on yoga, it also includes high-intensity moves like planks, push-ups, and squats. And, depending on how much time you have, class lengths range from 5 to 60 minutes. Along with customized workouts, the app offers nutritional plans, recipes, and sleep sounds, all meant to help promote well-rounded health.

If youre looking to break a sweat, sharpen your mind and body, and really amp up and diversify your yoga practice, this is a great option. The app itself is free, but the Pro version is $16 per month or $36 per year.

Best Calming App Ever

I love this app! Ive been really stressed out lately but this app has been very helpful and calming! I love that it has all the different options of types of yoga you can do. This also has an inner peace yoga that is really helpful with stress! If you just want to do a workout type of yoga its there! There is a fat burner, and core blast! Lots of different types of yoga. The yoga they give you is mostly intermediate and beginner yoga. If you really want to challenge yourself then this app is not for you. But for me this was my first experience with yoga. That means I was doing mostly beginners but it got to easy for me so now I do mostly intermediate yoga. This app has a morning yoga and a nighttime yoga. The morning yoga is a little harder than nighttime yoga because in the morning you are trying to wake up at and at night you are getting ready to go to sleep. Overall this app is totally worth it!!! I highly recommend it!

What You Should Know About Yoga Apps

Because there are different styles of yoga, we looked for an app that was all-encompassing and provided the option to select different types of classes every day. However, whatever app gets you excited about moving and gives you the instruction you want will be best for you. If you know you prefer a slow-paced, melt-into-your-mat practice over a get ready for the day energizing session, you may prefer an app that focuses on restorative yoga. Likewise, if you know you want to sweat during most of your practices, youll want an app that has an ample selection of athletic power flows. Almost all of the apps we tested have a free trial, so if youre looking for a place to start, you can try them for yourself, no commitment necessary.

If youre a total yoga novice, youll quickly become familiar with common yoga jargon. A few you should know up front: vinyasa, restorative, hatha, and power yoga.

Vinyasa yoga: Often referred to as flow, is a style of yoga that utilizes poses that connect from one to the next with ease, and encourages practitioners to move with their breath.

Hatha yoga: This type of yoga is similar to Vinyasa in that it uses a mixture of poses to use the body, breath, and mind in one. Hatha yoga is typically paced more slowly and allows for more deep stretching than Vinyasa.
