Ntc Nike Training Club
This app might strike you as a bit of a curveball, but we promise it includes a lot of yoga!
The app focuses mostly on athletics training, but offers a fantastic assortment of specific yoga routines, and quite a few yoga-based programmes too.
It might not be the best app for purists, but if you want to use yoga to get fit or lose weight, this free app is perfect.
Theres quite a variety on offer. The yoga routines are geared towards fitness, strength, and endurance, but theres some mindfulness too, and the app promises to help boost your mood.
Workouts are very flexible and range from 5-60 minutes. They cater for every level from beginner all the way up to advanced. Since every class is taught by a certified Nike trainer, you’ll be getting some of the best tuition in the world.
We especially like that unlike some of the other apps on the list, this one doesnt bombard you with in-app purchases or adverts.
The recommendation system is especially strong. Every exercise helps the app learn more about you, and it will begin to make suggestions regarding your next session.
We found these to be startlingly accurate, and while they wont always be yoga moves specifically, theyll always be useful!
We think this is one of the best free yoga apps for beginners to the world of fitness who might later move on to a pure yoga app to develop their skills further.
If you’re not sure whether yoga is for you, but want to work on your fitness nonetheless, this is a fantastic place to start.
How Often Are New Classes Added
If you pay for an online yoga subscription, you dont have to worry about a stagnant selection of videos. Not all services add new classes at the same rate, but youll usually get access to a new batch of pre-recorded or on-demand classes on a weekly or monthly basis.
Live class schedules will also obviously vary from platform to platform. If live classes are your preference, see if youre able to view each services calendar before committing to ensure youll actually be able to fit the live yoga classes into your schedule.

Best For Barre Pure Barre Go
Do you miss the barre? Me too. Pure Barre was not the first barre class I had ever taken but the first one that got me addicted to taking barre. I also got addicted to the teardrop arm effect of the arm workouts and the confidence I felt after mastering a given movement. Not to mention, all of the friends.
I will review the live studio in a separate post .
What you need to know for now, is if you are a member of Pure Barre, but the studio is not accessible, Pure Barre On Demand also known as Pure Barre GO offers plenty of routines as short as five minutes and up to 60 minutes long. This on demand feature is grandfathered into a Pure Lifestyle membership , but only 30 dollars a month otherwise.
You can filter workouts by what kind of equipment you have and what area of your body you want to tone. There are even prenatal programs and more intensive workouts available for people looking for more of a challenge. Its not the complete barre experience that us devoted Pure Barre fans are used to, but its as close as you can get. The workouts even simulate a live class studio setting .
You cant replicate the energy of the Pure Barre studio, no matter what you do the mirrors, the wooden barre, the instructor coming around and lifting your leg higher . Your chair or other stable surface becomes your barre or you can try to get as close as you can with a banister. Still, its better than no barre at all and one of the best options for a full-body, low impact workout.

It is so fun to use this app. I love how Kira’s energy is transferred to me while I watch and follow her videos. She has so many routines, from basic that I can follow on to those complex ones but I was able to learn because she is a good instructor even though I only watch her on my phone. Good one.

What Kind Of Equipment Youll Need For An Online Yoga Class
Because youre likely doing online yoga classes at home, youll need everything youd otherwise be able to borrow from a yoga studio. First and foremost, youll need a yoga mat. Yoga mats create a padded, secure surface for you to practice yoga without sliding all over the place or hurting your joints too much.
Some optional yoga equipment you can use during your practice are blocks, cushions, resistance bands, and blankets. Blocks and blankets are especially useful for restorative yoga where you spend extended periods of time focusing on specific parts of your body and stay in the same position longer than if you were going through a vinyasa flow.
Apart from gear you need for your actual practice, you might want to invest in some mood-setters like color-changing lights or an essential oil diffuser to take your yoga to the next level. There are yoga-specific shops like Gaiam or YogaDirect, or you can find the equipment you need from retailers like and Walmart.

Best For Breaking A Sweat: Asana Rebel
Why We Chose It: If getting a workout, turning up the heat, and losing weight is what you’re looking for in a yoga practice, Asana Rebel is a stellar pick.
What We Like
- Provides a workout that reaches beyond yoga
- Focuses on strengthening
What We Dont Like
- Not much variety in offerings
- Lack of navigation
- Users have reported glitches
If youre looking for a chill practice that is primarily centered around meditation and mindfulness, then this isnt necessarily the app for you. Yes, there are slow, easy flows to choose from, but the bulk of the Asana Rebel app is meant to turn up the heat and help you with strengthening and weight loss.
Asana is the physical practice of yoga poses or simply the physical aspect. Though the program is centered on yoga, it also includes high-intensity moves like planks, push-ups, and squats. And, depending on how much time you have, class lengths range from 5 to 60 minutes. Along with customized workouts, the app offers nutritional plans, recipes, and sleep sounds, all meant to help promote well-rounded health.
If youre looking to break a sweat, sharpen your mind and body, and really amp up and diversify your yoga practice, this is a great option. The app itself is free, but the Pro version is $16 per month or $36 per year.
Home Yoga Starter Gear
The only essential tool to start a home yoga practice is a mat, and you can find them at different price points and thicknesses to suit your needs. Expect to pay $19 or more for a well-reviewed non-slip mat.

Best Yoga App I’ve Used
I’m astounded. They got it all right with this app, and it’s hard for for me to find the patience for yoga. The process and the way I feel afterward is amazing, and I never feel patronized, pseudo-spiritual, or like I’m trying to be a soccer mom. From the language used in the narration, the soothing yet energizing voice, the musical selections the quality of the images.. I’m just really happy with Down Dog. Evidently there are in app purchases, but I probably wouldn’t have realized that if it wasn’t indicated on the app description. It’s not in-your-face at all – I’m going to have to go back and search for them. And I will, because the quality of the free product is so amazing. Maybe I sound like I’m gushing- it’s just that I have never had the patience for yoga before. It was one of those things I thought I maybe “should” do. I have used this app 5 times in 7 days, and always feel amazing afterwards.UPDATE: it’s over a year later, and I’m still using and loving Down Dog. I also paid for the upgrade, mostly because I wanted to support them so much, but it also unlocked some great features. I am impressed with how the app has evolved and how responsive the team is. Even when life is at its most chaotic, I can fit their 10 minute sessions in every night before I go to sleep, and longer sessions during the day whenever I can. Thank you, Down Dog!

Best For Inclusivity: The Underbelly
Why We Chose It: The Underbelly is a welcoming and inclusive space for all races, genders, and bodies.
What We Like
What We Dont Like
- No variety of instructors
- Limited amount of content
More often than not, yoga teachers come in the form of skinny, white women. Not only is that not reflective of the practice’s Indian roots, but it also creates an environment that lacks diversity and inclusion.
Classes are divided into 3 themes: Air, Earth, and Fire. Air classes focus on breathing and connecting that breath to movement Earth classes give an introduction to the different postures and Fire classes feature elements that get you moving and create some heat.
As a package, The Underbelly is a safe space for all, but especially those who often feel like they dont belong. You can test the app out in a 14-day free trial, but otherwise, it costs $10 per month.
