What Is The Difference Between A Certified Yoga Teacher And A Registered Yoga Teacher

Best Place to learn yoga | Best Yoga School in India

A certified yoga teacher training program typically meets the required industry standards of what is expected from a training. If youre interested in getting a certificate to teach, then your best bet is to look for teacher trainings that allow you to be a registered yoga instructor at the end of it.

What that means is you get an official certificate by Yoga Alliance, a recognized training body of yoga in the world. Schools that are Yoga Alliance certified follow a strict framework that allow them to lead not just 200-hour yoga teacher trainings, but 300-hour and 500-hour programs as well.

Studios that are Yoga Alliance-certified will feature the Yoga Alliance logo on all of their courses. When in doubt, its always best to inquire with the school directly.

How To Have A Profitable Online Yoga Business

First of all, after you nail down your yoga certification online course at an online yoga school, there are a few steps you have to take before you can start teaching professionally.

Regardless if you are teaching online or in-person, creating a business plan with financial goals is absolutely crucial for every new business the good part is that it should be more comfortable for an online business than running a physical studio.

Also, you would have to plan and create content to nurture your audience and then market and scale your brand so you can find potential students.

Nowadays, with so many different strategies, we know it can be overwhelming to know where to start.

That is why at YOGI TIMES UNIVERSITY, we recommend the Kelly McHugh Teach Online, which will break down all the digital marketing strategies you need to have in place to run a thriving yoga business. This is a very complete course to start your business online with a solid foundation. Kelly is personable, kind, and dedicated to lead yoga teachers to their highest potential.

What Are Yoga Ashrams Like

Yoga ashrams are places of solitude and surrender. They are designed to help you take a break from your responsibilities and obligations in the world, and live in contact with your inner world for a time. In this day and age, this is perhaps the greatest luxury! Read my lengthy post on staying at a Yoga ashram in India here.

Where Can I Learn Yoga In India

What are the best places to learn yoga in India?

There are innumerable Yoga ashrams in India, but many of them cater to Indians and would therefore be unsuitable to most foreigners. The major centres in India where Yoga for foreigners is found are:

  • Rishikesh
  • Goa
  • Dharamsala

Rishikesh is the Yoga capital of the world and foreign students flock there. There are many, many ashrams, courses and programs available some are more suitable for foreigners than others. But beware: many fly-by-night operators are opening Yoga schools to capitalize on the Yoga boom. There are far more conmen and scam artists in Rishikesh than authentic, genuine, skilled Yoga teachers.

I live in Rishikesh and can recommend some excellent teachers and ashrams. Otherwise, I strongly advise you to seek a personal recommendation from a trusted teacher in your home country. I went on a popular site that allows you to book Yoga retreats online, and found 31 pages of Yoga Teacher Training courses listed . There is NOT A CHANCE that all 372 courses are of equal value or quality, or worth the trip to India.

Yoga is popularly thought to have originated in the Himalayas, and the Yoga tradition is still very strong in places like Uttarakhand, where Rishikesh is located. The further up you go into the hills, to places like Uttarkashi, the more authentic your experience of Yoga will be.

Chennai is home of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, one of the most respectable places to study Yoga in India. I did a one-month intensive course there, and it was excellent.

Where Did Yoga Start

No one really knows exactly when or where Yoga started in India, it is lost in the mists of time. However, in Hindu culture, the first Yoga teacher was Shiva, who taught Yoga to his wife Parvati. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna taught Arjun the philosophy of Yoga to help him resolve his dilemma. Historically, there is archaeological and textual evidence that suggests Yoga is at least thousands of years old.

Several hundred years ago, Patanjali complied the Yoga Sutra, and is considered the father of modern Yoga. In the 20th century, T. Krishnamacharya and Swami Sivananda both created a lasting impact. Krishnamacharyas students include T.K.V. Desikachar , B.K.S. Iyengar, and K. Pattabhi Jois .

The theme of Yoga and self-realization is found in the earliest Indic texts, the Vedas and Upanishads and this becomes codified as the Yoga Sutra about 2,000 years ago, giving a well-defined path and practices. Other, related paths were also developed and codified over this time, like Buddhism, Jainism, and later Tantra, according to Dr. Pankaj Seth. Dr. Seth is a Naturopath with a focus on Ayurveda, Yoga, and Pranayama.

In the Bhagavad Gita different types of Yoga are mentioned, such as Karma Yoga , Bhakti Yoga and Janana Yoga , once again giving individuals a choice according to their aptitude.

Why Yogis Choose Thailand

Perhaps Thailand is still winning the hearts of Leo fans everywhere with the hope to find a paradise as pristine as the paradise represented in the film The Beach. Or perhaps yogis are drawn to the friendliness of the Thai people and the fact that vegan pad thai is always available and always affordable. Whatever the reason, Thailand is a very popular place for yoga teacher training.

What Our Students Are Saying

Best yoga learning for beginners # Yoga for beginners girls

Ive been to many yoga classes and this was one of the best Ive taken. The staff are very welcoming and it really feels like a community. I would definitely recommend this studio for anyone looking for yoga classes.

This is the best yoga studio I have ever practiced at. The teachers/instructors bring their individuality, knowledge, & humor into the classes…they give me leeway to push myself to kick my own ass or let my body heal and take the poses as the come.

Max is an awesome leader who continually pushes us further than we know we have the ability to go, which allows for true growth. I highly recommend this training and this studio to anyone looking to start their practice or continue deepening their journey.

The Yoga Factory in Plano is a great place to practice! The instructor I had today was Thom, and he was great at providing feedback and modifications to the yogis in the studio and those practicing at home on Zoom. I will definitely return for Thoms classes and Im looking forward to trying more!

I took my first class with Letty on Tuesday and it was amazing! The studio was great but her teaching was easy follow! She pushed me to my limits and was patient to help me go further. Even though I couldnt master all of it I never felt bad about it. I left feeling excited to have somewhere to grow! Great place to take yoga!

How To Choose A Yoga Routine

Here, weve made it easy for you to navigate all those hard-to-pronounce styles of yoga, so you can show up to your first yoga class with confidence!

In your search for beginner-friendly yoga classes, look for words like hatha yoga, yin yoga, gentle yoga, Iyengar yoga, restorative yoga or relaxation yoga.

Hatha yoga is a general term for a movement-based yoga class, and its a good choice for beginners. In yin yoga and restorative yoga classes, you will hold the yoga poses for longer periods of time and typically use props such as blocks, bolsters, and blankets, to make the body more comfortable.

You shouldnt feel as though every other style of yoga is off-limits the yoga world is your oyster!

Other classes may focus more on building strength, and not just flexibility. Vinyasa flow classes will move at a more dynamic pace, and typically incorporate sun salutations, a series of basic yoga poses including mountain pose and downward-facing dog.

Expect a bit more physical challenge from power yoga, kundalini yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Bikram yoga, and hot yoga. Bikram yoga takes place in a heated room, as does yep, you guessed it!

Hot yoga is usually a vinyasa yoga or power yoga class taught in a room with added heat and humidity to supposedly help the muscles stretch and aid relaxation.
