Yoga Poses And Classes
The poses and classes app is perhaps the most accessible out of all of the yoga apps free download options on our list.
While all of the apps on this list are free to download, some of them do require in-app purchases to unlock more material. Poses and Classes does this too, but since its also supported by ads, theres a great deal of free material! In our opinion, there is more than enough content to keep you going indefinitely.
The app offers 100 poses which are incredibly well illustrated and easy to follow. The diagrams and instructions on this app are some of the clearest of the list, and a timer tells you when to transition into the next pose.
All the classes have been designed by certified yoga experts, so you know that youre only getting top-level tuition.
We think this might be the best free yoga app for anyone who wants to focus primarily on balance.
The main classes focus on strength, flexibility, and balance, but its the latter that gets the most attention.
The various poses will help you understand how your body works, and teach you to hold yourself in equilibrium which is, after all, the foundation of all yoga.
Of course, there are a variety of other targeted classes on offer. Our favourite was probably the Morning Yoga, which offers a short and invigorating burst of energy perfect for getting the day started.
Incredible But A Few Things
First off, the app is amazing and I’ve grown very attached to it. But a couple things. Its not something I would suggest for beginners. I’d suggest it for people who have dabbled a bit in yoga. Thankfully, I have experienced yoga before, so I had a lucky start. But I understand not everyone does yoga. So it might not be the best app for younger people or people who have never done at least a bit of yoga before. But I really enjoy the different varieties of sessions. They are super fun to do and I actually struggle with trying not to repeat sessions! I once found myself wanting to do more sessions AFTER Id finished my workout. Also, I dont know if this is just for me, but my phone refuses to allow a yoga plan. It always says that theres an issue. Please try again later. All in all, great app. Just not for beginners.

Ntc Nike Training Club
This app might strike you as a bit of a curveball, but we promise it includes a lot of yoga!
The app focuses mostly on athletics training, but offers a fantastic assortment of specific yoga routines, and quite a few yoga-based programmes too.
It might not be the best app for purists, but if you want to use yoga to get fit or lose weight, this free app is perfect.
Theres quite a variety on offer. The yoga routines are geared towards fitness, strength, and endurance, but theres some mindfulness too, and the app promises to help boost your mood.
Workouts are very flexible and range from 5-60 minutes. They cater for every level from beginner all the way up to advanced. Since every class is taught by a certified Nike trainer, you’ll be getting some of the best tuition in the world.
We especially like that unlike some of the other apps on the list, this one doesnt bombard you with in-app purchases or adverts.
The recommendation system is especially strong. Every exercise helps the app learn more about you, and it will begin to make suggestions regarding your next session.
We found these to be startlingly accurate, and while they wont always be yoga moves specifically, theyll always be useful!
We think this is one of the best free yoga apps for beginners to the world of fitness who might later move on to a pure yoga app to develop their skills further.
If you’re not sure whether yoga is for you, but want to work on your fitness nonetheless, this is a fantastic place to start.

How Yoga Promotes Weight Loss
Yoga promotes weight loss in different ways. The following are key weight loss benefits of yoga:
-
Helps Cultivate Mindfulness:
Practising yoga develops mindfulness and awareness of the body. This prevents impulsive eating, thereby restricting weight gain. For example, mindful eating helps exercise portion control and staying away from unhealthy foods. Regular yoga practice also calms anxiety leading to behavioural changes to prevent stress eating.
-
Speeds Up The Metabolism:
Hatha and power yoga poses like the Sun salutations and Bhastrika Pranayam help speed up the metabolism, contributing to better digestion. This aids weight loss.
-
Burns Calories:
Sun salutations with intensive breathwork are as effective as aerobic workouts and help accelerate calorie burn. Some active styles of yoga like Ashtanga Yoga, Power Yoga, and Vinyasa Yoga also prevent weight gain.
-
Burns Belly Fat:
Restorative yoga poses help burn harmful abdominal fat by working on the core muscles. Trikonasana and the Cobra pose are great at reducing upper and lower belly fat.
-
Promotes Lean Muscle Formation:
Yoga poses like the Boat pose, Plank pose, Chair pose, and Bow pose work on the glutes, abdomen, and hamstrings, helping you lose fat, strengthen muscles, and promote muscle formation.
-
Increases Flexibility:
If you practise yoga regularly and for a long time, your body will become highly flexible. Yoga also tones your body making you look lean and fit.

Best For Inclusivity: The Underbelly
The Underbelly
Why We Chose It: The Underbelly is a welcoming and inclusive space for all races, genders, and bodies.
What We Like
What We Dont Like
- No variety of instructors
- Limited amount of content
More often than not, yoga teachers come in the form of skinny, white women. Not only is that not reflective of the practice’s Indian roots, but it also creates an environment that lacks diversity and inclusion.
Classes are divided into 3 themes: Air, Earth, and Fire. Air classes focus on breathing and connecting that breath to movement Earth classes give an introduction to the different postures and Fire classes feature elements that get you moving and create some heat.
As a package, The Underbelly is a safe space for all, but especially those who often feel like they dont belong. You can test the app out in a 14-day free trial, but otherwise, it costs $10 per month.

Best For Spirituality: Gaia
Why We Chose It: Gaia is a solid option if you’re looking to focus more on the mental benefits of yoga, as opposed to the physical ones.
What We Like
- Helps you learn about and understand the roots of yoga
- Abundance of yoga videos to choose from
- Bonus educational videos and films
What We Dont Like
- Might be too slow for more experienced yogis
- Can be too spiritually focused for some
- Needs improvement with organization
If youre seeking a more holistic practice, Gaia is great for tapping into your inner zen. For $12 per month or $99 a year, youll have access to more than 8,000 videos taught by the best of the best.
Physical activity is definitely incorporated through asanas, or poses, but the app is less about training the body and more about training the mind. With that said, there are a ton of videos and films from spiritual leaders as well as meditation practices to choose from.
Just be forewarned that these classes are not as modern or Western as you might be used to, which will give you a chance to understand the philosophies behind these different practices and, hopefully, help you appreciate them even more. So, come with an open heart and an appetite for some mindfulness.
